ParticipantWe have never used the extractor on steps. Used the Nobles briefly…too dangerous. So I got a commercial Oreck before Cody began selling. Also prefer the green stripe pad, only use 1/2 the pad though. We split them in half and make 2 pads out of one. This allows for less drag on the carpet and less weight for the Oreck to have to deal with spinning. Works great!!
We use the plain pad, but they are not that great. they bunch up and are a pain.
Hope this makes sense. Call me if there are any questions. 717-898-6340

ParticipantI have cleaned many pieces of microfiber and they clean easily and well. My only concern is that the local mogul…16 trucks, will not touch it… I have had nothing but excellent results with cleaning it. It can hold a tremendous amount of dirt/soil however.

ParticipantOld topic, but I just noticed something today while doing a set of steps with a landing. In the beginning of my using the Oreck orbiter, some 2 plus years ago now, (before HB began selling) the pads would fall off, making it very difficult to clean with. SO… I split the green stripe pad seam with a razor blade and made the pad half as thick and made two thinner and lighter pads out of one. They work much better.
I originally purchased the commercial unit and now have 2 commercial Oreck units. The thinner pads hold better, spin better and work great.
If anyone wants to sell me their heavy duty Oreck, I will buy it and save for a back-up.

ParticipantNot just the phone book…but prominently in the YP and with your photo as well…don’t make them have to squint to find you.

ParticipantRon,
I always…always, at the end of a job, give a customer 5 business cards and 5 brochures and say this: ” A happy customer will tell 5 prople and an unhappy one 25″…with no exceptions yet…they are happy and my referrals are awesome.
I just purchased 1100 each, Million Dollar Bills and have been giving them to my customers and saying “Thanks a Million.” They will not pitch it and will remember me for it. I have not yet personalized them…may not either.
I always give a customer a magnet business card that I purchase from my supplier at $.16 each I think. They are on refrigerators and filing cabinets by the hundreds now.
And I know this is off the subject, but almost all new customers come from two sources for us….referrals or word of mouth, and the Yellow Pages. Having a smaller ad for the first 2 years, and business building steadily, I decided to jump start it the 3rd year, with son getting van will have to feed more and make more….we took out a 1/2 page ad. As you open the main YP book, we are the 3rd listing, or at the top of the right hand page. Opposite the largest company in the area with 17 vans…what a coup!!!
My phone has been ringing twice asoften in the deadest week of the year.
Additionally, we took out 1/2 page ads in the other two county YPages and have our photos in each..my son and mine. A tip from a successful state owner. Already booked 3 jobs from the ad!!!
Happy new Year and wish you the best. Hope this helps.

ParticipantHave Ford E-150 and am going to get the second one hopefully in a month or so for my son. No problems at all and like the space. Sprinter seems too expensive and I am 6’2″ and do not need to walk in the van… I am only in and out.

ParticipantThe heaters are working. I am using a small box heater with a fan with 1500w and a larger (sizewise) oil filled heater, 1500w. I have the vent on the dashboard turned off and the van has stayed warm, above 35 degrees F, at 10 degrees outside temp…I have a digital thermometer inside the van which I can monitor with a flashlight without opening the door. Must use separate circuits though or will blow a breaker.
This helps prevent damage from taking equipment in and out of vehicle, condensation from building up on motor, freezing of chemical forgotten or missed, pads stay reasonably pliable and warm and it is a whole lot easier than unloading/loading every evening and morning. Neat seeing all of the other vehicles covered in snow and the van almost nothing….

ParticipantI guess you dd not understand. By using the old pads on trashed carpet, they will take the brunt of the oil, coffee, gunk and whatever else is on the/in the carpeting….not a new pad. I have had new pads get stained really bedly on terrible, rental property carpeting.
Time is saved by not trying to rejeuvenate the trashed and stained pad by extra cleaning or bleaching. Of course, the soiled apartments and rentals in Lancaster may be grossly worse than in Minnesota. I save time and pads which means $$$ by reusing the pads for slightly different application.
I am only 2 years into this business and may not have the experience of others. It seemed to be a great way to reuse pads otherwise not usable in most applications.

ParticipantThe Oreck is awesome and if used properly saves time and money and pays for itself in a handful of jobs. 🙂
