I just used a bunch of old pads today on a trashed rental property and thought I might pass on the experience.

When the edging/binding of the pads are frayed and coming apart, I have been piling them up until I could figure out a use for them. For some time now, I have been using them on rental property carpeting that has been trashed. I use the old pads on the trashed carpet instead of my newer pads, saving them for the finer homes, and the old pads work just fine.

They shed some of the materials, but I do not care…we do a final vacuum on these carpets anyway to help lift the pile a tad anyway and pick up andy extranneous materials.

Why stain our new pads with Lord knows what? I guess I am a little Scotch and just want to squeeze the last bit of use out of them. And yes, I do finish with good pads…

    Any other suggestions?[/b]

Dave: I would agree with you in your desire to try to find some use for the old tired out pads. However, to continue in using the old pads even in rough “turrain” seems to me would become a bit time consuming, and TIME spent becomes $ lost elsewhere. My labs are currently enjoying them as a bedding but I am open to suggestions on the matter.

I guess you dd not understand. By using the old pads on trashed carpet, they will take the brunt of the oil, coffee, gunk and whatever else is on the/in the carpeting….not a new pad. I have had new pads get stained really bedly on terrible, rental property carpeting.

Time is saved by not trying to rejeuvenate the trashed and stained pad by extra cleaning or bleaching. Of course, the soiled apartments and rentals in Lancaster may be grossly worse than in Minnesota. I save time and pads which means $$$ by reusing the pads for slightly different application.

I am only 2 years into this business and may not have the experience of others. It seemed to be a great way to reuse pads otherwise not usable in most applications.

Dave: Sorry. 😳 Wasn’t trying to be critical. I have used pads till they simply couldn’t obsorb simply water spills anymore. All I was doing with old pads (so it seemed) was spreading the “muck” around the room. Please forgive me for sounding critical. Never intended that.

    Carry on Dave!

I’ve found a great use for my old pads, I make them into a hat. That’s right they make a great ” bonnet “.

Good one…several years ago, I found that a local leather store could resew the outer edge with nylon thread…they work just fine for agitating the carpet and loosening soil/stuff in the carpet fibers. Anyway, for $3.00 a pad, they clean very nicely,

Really great to use on trashed carpeting,

Maybe this might help someone, or get their creative juices flowing,,,times may get tough.

Dave, I have been in business for six years and I too use old pads for cleaning trashed carpets. Saves the new ones from the gunk and keeps them looking a bit nicer. Does it take more time? Hmmm, well, maybe. But if I have time, what the heck. I usually change them quicker anyway since the carpet is filthy and don’t spread the soil around the room. I burn thru a lot of pads but with the price of pads, I use them til they are no longer usable. Now, I’m not using pads that are way gone, they still have some life in them, and I don’t use them when ther is time is tight or I am running late. The cats like to sleep on them and I have given some to the local animal shelter for bedding.

I have found a new hobby; trap shooting. I wonder if I can find a way to use them for target shooting 😆

When it comes time to find a use for buffer pads other them carpet, I found the local animal shelter loves them. They use them in the pens and also for fresbe’s for dogs to play fetch. They write up a thank you to HB in their newsletter. They ask if I want a donation reciept for them. I decline because I already write them off. The newsletter is a nice bonus.

We use a pad for the Oreck to stand upon. It protects the velcro from gettting smashed and ruin the driver. Works great for that.

Using the old pads on Rentals doesn’t take up extra time when combined with the Dirt Napper.
I performed another Miracle this morning.

Another idea would be to take them to the local rescue shelter for dogs.
They make great toys for tug-o-war, frisbee, or to just take a nap on.

i like to use them as door mats for empty houses when its nasty outside. nothin worse then cleaning up your own tracks on freshly cleaned carpet.
