Since our garage cannot hold the vans and they must stay outside and we must bring water containing materials and machines inside, we did something last year that worked great last year and so far this one.
I built, inside the garage, a makeshift 8 x 8 x 7 foot frame for poly covering and have everything in there, with a small space heater if needed. Our garage rarely gets below 30 deg since it has house on two sides.
With not taking chances when the weather is going down to the low teens, I turn on LOW, the small space heater, close the flaps and it is warm and toasty with very little extra heat or effort. 95% of the time none is required since I monitor with a thermometer…
Hope this helps…
pachecoParticipantWARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you use a fan to dry wax faster….be very, very careful…any dust in the area will possibly become blown around and ruin you nice wax job…3 thin coats and applied in different directions was what momma taught me when we did dad’s 2800 sq/ft physician’s office 2x a year…
have fun…
You might rethink the pricing after the firs job…not like out regular work at all.
pachecoParticipantLast year we built a makeshift 8x8x7′ tall structure in the garage, since the van will not fit. With little or no additional heat, the plastic covering kept everything from freezing. We did he van heater thing for 5 years and hated throwing money away for no good reason…It works well in hoding the heat inside as it is enclosed and I think I only turned the space heater on one or two times when it got to 5 above or so.
Of course the van heater will work in NC or any place south of the Mason Dixon.it doesn’t get that cold that often down there…but i do remember one time when I woke in the middle of the night since it was cold and power was off and it was near zero outside and our fire was low…I brought everything inside at 2 AM or so and stoked the wood burner and no damage….
I would not risk the damage due to laziness…and err on the side of caution.
For what its worth
pachecoParticipantWe saw this some years ago with several bottles that were mixed and not used for some months…I think that if the solutions are used regularly, there should be no problem, but a slimy mold coming out of a bottle that a customer purchased would not be good and should get a reply regarding prevention of some kind from corporate.
just a thought..
pachecoParticipantI am not positive the number of franchisees HB has, but SS says they have some 250 in 2006, and generating some $400 million in total sales, and some 215 franchisees in 1984 with some $100 million in total sales. I have never heard a number for total sales for HB which might be interesting…at something over $1 million per franchise in total sales, I am pretty sure we did not do that in any of the past 6 1/2 years in our franchise. If we were, then I might understand the need to feed such an organization with TV, Radio, etc. The HB organization is not SS or CD but rather home-based and much smaller and possibly more rewarding in other ways than the larger and more well known carpet cos…big whup…
Just my 2 cents worth…
pachecoParticipantnecessary if one has alzheimers…lol
pachecoParticipantLooks to be smaller than our Ford E-150s. Space might be as important as mileage. We might sell one of the E-150s and purchase a smallish SUV of some type that may hold a buffer, sprayer, pads and chems and to be used for small jobs of for sales demos etc. Space in the 150 is good, and not too convinced that a Sprinter is the way to go either…at least not now, not here and in this economy.
pachecoParticipantThanks Dave, however, I had my numbers listed and they still called with solicitation calls…my home number doubles as our work number and is forwarded to my cell. I just went online and registered all phones, since my number is not blocked and businesses may be capturing it and then recalling on it…now i have all numbers listed and better stop all incoming calls.
Maybe I am the only one to get solicitation calls. By having the business/home phone now listed, it may stop the nuisance calls…
P.S.- I like Snopes…should have checked there first…

pachecoParticipantThanks for the suggestion…we already have a 6500 watt generator..and OH YEAH…it has the power ok for a washer or dryer. I am seriously going to start looking into DIY water heater with solar for my roof. I am already going to build 2 each solar hot air heaters to augment my heat pump for this winter..incredible device. In PA we are going to be hit with a 30-40% add on to our electric bill this January and it is going to get some national attention…The utilities were frozen on prices and this is being lifted this January. Few understand it and couple this with the Cap & Trade fiasco in Washington…it is going to be ugly.
My plan at this time is to install the solar air heaters for this fall and winter and beyond for day time heating, continue to use my wood burner for evening heat and the heat pump for auxiliary heating….and if all else fails…baseboard strips..used the first year in the house 1984, never since.
Nest year I plan on building a solar greenhouse in the back yard, using a wall of water pails for daytime heat storage as well as earth tubes, both for the greenhouse and the home. (Tubes buried 6-9 feet in the ground and gently moving air through and heating or cooling to the ambient temp of the earth at that depth).
In addition, next year put solar hot water heater on roof and use water in a preheated mode prior to the water heater so it will not have to heat from 53-54 degrees to 120 or so, but rather from 80-90, saving the 30-40 degree hit…could cut costs a little bit due to the fact that I use a lot of hot water with the pads.
I like doing this type of thing…makes me feel like I am actually beating the system.
Any and all ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
DavepachecoParticipantBrian, thanks for the suggestions///
I called John and he pretty much reiterated what you suggested.
After church I checked the sitch by placing leads on another switch. Turned on and a quick bump and blew the breaker. put another pump in and did the same thing..i checked all wiring and it all looks fine, a few rub marks, but appears to be in tact..
I will call you monday morning…unless you want to call me later….today. this blows my pea brain to pieces..
thanks.

pachecoParticipantBrian,
I just used the u-mate Friday for a job and the pump would not turn on. I have no idea what to do in the area below where the vacuum is located. Can I remove the 4 screws on the bottom and look for a fuse, or is that a a waste of time. Any recommendations at all?
I hate to buy a pump for no good reason.
Thanks,
Dave Dilts
pachecoParticipantTim,
Our sprayer batteries have never, ever died…well, one shorted out during a repair once and I looked locally for replacement and it has never died in 4 years. I charge the batteries about once a month.
The battery charger works great, only went thru one of them in 6 years.
Agree with Dave, plastic housing would be more professional.
pachecoParticipantI would imagine that the number of links ratio would have been about the same a year ago…or could they have had a surge in link generation? I would think that the drop off may be economy related…Heavens Best still pops up high on any search I have done.. Just saying…
pachecoParticipantEven a blind squirrel gets a nut once in awhile….
pachecoParticipantSure do…same one the High School uses….call them up.
Just because it is Friday…
