ParticipantI do know that Service Master (Disaster) charges 10% for most things and 15% for somethings. (their monthly reports are a real pain, allot of record keeping) I go to Rotary with the guy who services all of Eastern Oregon. He’s always complaining about these fees. Chem Dry tells you what van you will operate from in each area, and fines owners for not doing what coperate wants, when and how. ( I know because I WAS a “chem’re” and witnessed it ) Heavens Best simply lives up to it’s name! I have been cleaning since Feb of 82. (before allot of you were born) I realize most Heaven’s Best owners and operators have no idea how good they really have it.

ParticipantAre you kidding! Pizza Hut’s not bad. Last year a chinese restaurant called and wanted a bid. Even after three weeks I still didn’t return their call. Thinking they got someone else, I… my family took be there (so I could pay the bill) They somehow know who I was and asked me about cleaning. I said I wouldn’t clean it for less than 25 cents a sq ft. They said that was crazy. I turned to my wife and said “It was crazy, I should of said 35cents a sq ft. Restaurants are really hard on buffer pads and beauty sleep.

ParticipantThe State owner meeting was really great! What’s on line for Jan 07 that we can gear up for? No, I haven’t got my plane ticket yet, but I’m really looking forward to it. How can we start now to insire our owners & operators to go? What are some considerations for promo’s? In spite of a few negitive comments I really appreciate this site and to oppertunity to be on it (mainly to learn from it ). Thank you Cody and all!

ParticipantI’ve also heard of total gross annual income and I’ve heard this … A. annual income B. bottom line of schedule C times 2. Add together and divide by 2 and then add C. true retail value of total equipment, van, real etsate if any. This gives you your true value. So find out which is better for you and go for it. None of this counts for total population and/or disired area, but it’s a place to start. Or you can ask your friendly lawyer with his hand out, and he’ll tell you the same thing with a bill. (I have enough friends like that thank you.)

ParticipantAmmon, I agree, I like to call it incentives as apposed to bribes, I think it will be a great event, it should be important like going to your own wedding! I wouldn’t mind coming up with a few incentives, such as help with travel expense with some of the struggling operators. I hope it will be the thing to turn them around or I’ll have to get more aggressive to get them to sell. Cody is woking on some great incentives, but with the new logo, training, and so forth I’m not sure how he gets things done as much as he does. This IS a great company to be in and a great time to be in it! who raw!

ParticipantI found out that the local pound will take the old buffer pads to put them in the cage with the dogs or cats. They also play fresbe (catch and return) with the dogs to give them their xtra-size (because I do little of it I like to joke about it). In exchange they advertise HB in their newletter. They want to give me a tax credit voucher but I’ve already written them off (the pads). Good subject guys

ParticipantDan,
Your refered customers still use the phone book. If you have a smaller ad will that effect your customer’s image of you? Will you mantain the image in monthly newletters instead? The question to ponder “where can I get the best image for my buck? Will this image generate the calls? Just something to ponder… do you have enough customers?, are you only looking to maintain or build? If maintain is your answer, then where’s the image answer? Tough Question… one I refer to as a “buffer question” (pondering while working the buffer)hbottumwa

ParticipantTo whom it may comcern…
An operator in Iowa (other than Bryan) was accused of taking $20 from a night stand. It was brought up as they were loading up. The HB owner turned to the helper of 2 months and ask him if he had taken it. “I need to know now because I’m calling the police. HB owner called the police they emptied there pockets to the police officer and said “we are not guilty. but we want you write this up, and I hope this check clears.” After about two weeks later the HB owner received a call to say there was nothing to report, but it was good that he (HB) called instead of the customer. The police also recommended that he not serve that customer again. These two times are the only times I’ve heard of.hbottumwa
ParticipantI was an asst. manager in a clothing store chain. I was bumped when the owners neffew wanted my job. I asked everyone who bought gas at a gas station if they knew of a job? Thats how I was introduced to the cleaning business. I ran a sewing machine and vacuum store by day, cleaned carpets in the evening and on Saturdays. When I made more from cleaning then selling and repairs. I sold my parnership in the vac buz and went cleaning (Steam). After the Navy(n-a-v-y… never again volenteer yourself) I managed and operated a chem-dry (brand X) (who had heard of my repution from before the navy) for two years. A customer once wrote a check out for Heaven’s Best while I was with brand X, I remembered that and went looking for it, I found it. Life has never ever been this good!

ParticipantBryan I may be a little late in replying however, I had an operator who wasn’t motivated. They wore sweat pants and tee shirts to work. I pointed out they could do much better if they looked the part and they could feel good about charging more than 18 cents a square foot for cleaning. They brought up all of negitive things they personally didn’t like about the business like monthly reports… so I suggessed they sell while it’s a good time. (what ever that means) They had an area of 120k and did less then $30k annually. Their area was the fastest growing community in Oregon, second in the north west. The people they sold to did just under $7,800 last month. This one worked out well. I think it was the …get in line… talk that created the ” I want to sell” motivation. I do have other areas with less than desired resolts (sp) and I wonder if we could do the same with others. I’m kind of brain storming as I write. What is your feeling on the matter?

ParticipantThank you Bryan for your insight 🙂
