ParticipantThanks Ron,
The company producing the ad, really shied away from putting in a toll free # in the ad. They said most people have cell phones anyway. If they can’t afford a cell phone or a long distance call, they don’t have the money to buy. (Unless the number is really catchy like (800)hea-vens.) As far as numbers, they can insert what ever number you want, so all state owners can have it personalized to their #. In other words, the first one made will be without numbers, and numbers will be added to the original to be adapted to you. I am really feel good about the knowledge and quality of this local company. They are based out of La Grande, but they do allot of work coming from trade shows nation wide.
Part of me says I want to make the best ads I can to begin with.(that’s true) The other part of me says we need a place to start and improve from there. I’m anxious to get a jump on spring advertising. Maybe these ads could be linked to the corporate site with the corporate # displayed. Any other input would be very much appreciated.hbottumwa
ParticipantIt’s been more than a week since the start of this post. Does any other state owners have any opinion about this? If you feel I’m making a mistake please let me know.
Cody, perhaps I have upset state owners to the point they will not respond or do we have no more than a few state owners actively involved?

ParticipantAny more new ideas would be appreciated, I can run new ideas by them on Monday. We will start on at least two ads Tuesday morning. I’ve seen their quality and I’m excited about the possibilities!!!

ParticipantToday at 1pm I meet with the TV ad producer to finalize the scripts. (Thanks to the above posts, I may do three) I thank those who have responded. To answer the above (very good) questions this is how I would answer.
1. What makes people buy?
One main reason is when they discover the integrity of the leadership of the company. (The most important thing in a contract, isn’t in the contract, it’s dealing with honest people)2. Why is this franchise better than a start up?
Superb training and continued support, growing national name recognition, classy logo’s, price, and bulletin board resources, coupled with a very low franchise fee in return.3. What makes operators that are successful- successful?
It starts with a sales oriented service person with character and integrity, put in a days work each day, and a desire to succeed with a plan.4. What makes operators that have stayed- stay?
They are successful and they enjoy what they do.hbottumwa
ParticipantGood to hear from you Don,
I use a quarter to half cup of color fast bleach with each load. All depends on the load. I use bleach so I can’t be accused of taking someones disease or problem from one home to the next. And color fast isn’t as damaging to the towels or pads as regular bleach.hbottumwa
ParticipantThanks, for your post and good ideas Bryan. Getting several people together to make an ad would work well at our international conference/seminar. Take 25 interviews and use the best of them! (not just all the good looking bald people) 4-5 professional looking actors giving quotes of HB operators is a great idea!! I’d pay into that!!!
In Oregon & New Mexico it will cost $1,200-2,600 to run an ad for a month/ (26 times a day total) spread out on four stations. Stations were aged targeted 25-55. + other targets. Haven’t heard back on Iowa or Oklahoma yet. On average, paying 2,000-3,500 for a good sale, I’ll take it. It sill leaves me 10k + and more monthly income as well! The key is… getting the good/great buyer with $$,$$$.$$.
Great thoughts Bryan.hbottumwa
ParticipantDry out as much as possible, putting protector on afterwords also helps with wicking problems. It creates a barrier, greatly slowing the wicking process. This also may need to be done more than once. Along with Bryans suggestions, plus using protector has saved my bacon many, many, many times through the years.

ParticipantMark,
This may sound a bit silly, but these questions come to mind…You are still in the phone book, just not in a display ad correct?
In dropping yellow page advertising, did you loose any business? If so, how much did you loose?
I ask these questions because there are operators that are very cautious about dropping the yellow pages completely (yet).

ParticipantGood point.

ParticipantHe did have an offer for those that had a smart phone. Does a smart phone print out a receipt? My phone isn’t a smart phone and the one I got is still smarter than I am…

ParticipantOkay after looking more it to things, this is what I discovered.
Kevin Kennedy- Total merchant services (208)573-6710
$10 Statement Fee
$15 Wireless Fee
$25 minimum Monthly Fee (1.59% fee for cards swiped, $0.25 per-transaction fee (or) $25 which ever is greater)
$50 monthly minimum totalChris Manford- Merchant Services Direct (509)714-9076
$25 Monthly fee for services (service, wireless, statements)
$0.00 Minimum monthly swipe fees (half % (.005) fee for swipe cards, $.10 per-transaction fee)
Different with this company, you buy instead of rent/lease machine. Machine $499 new, $199 refurbished.
Also they encourage you not to take American Express because that is the only exception to the $.005 fee.
American Express- cost 5% fee. Och.P.S I bought the refurbished machine.
Input is encouraged.hbottumwa
ParticipantThey are more absorbent but don’t show the dirt unless it’s real dirty. To gauge the amount of soil your dealing with, you still need to use other pads or use the towels after using MF pads. To me it’s like a cross between the BBC pad and the woven turf pad. Again soils are different nation/world wide. What works super great here may not work as well somewhere else. I really like MF pads. I don’t clean without them.

ParticipantAre most of you still using United Bank Card services for your Visa/MC etc? Is it still working well for you? Have you tried some other company that you are happier with?

ParticipantThis is a tough one. Military or otherwise. The main thing I see, is to DO YOUR BEST to correct the situation if possible and let it go. DON’T LET IT EAT YOU ALIVE. February 1st I start my 29th year in the cleaning business. I’ve seen it to often, even gone through it myself. Do your best and let it go. Holding a grudge is toxic. Refusing to forgive is like taking poison and hoping the other person will die. People like this have “mad cow disease”, don’t become infected and transfer it to your herd (of customers). We only have so much time, spend it with the people who are pleasant to be with. I feel for the lady that is married to this guy and everyone else that comes in contact for that matter. If you see him again, it might make him more upset or not, but sincerely thank him for he’s service (in the military) anyway.
