ParticipantAll good points, and price shopping probably explains my low response rate. However, any avenue (especially a free one) is another way to get my name out there.

ParticipantBeing Tax season, I just passed a human “statue of liberty” jumping around like a nut in front of an accountants office. It got my attention. I also passed the Chik-Fil-A cow dancing on a corner.
Maybe I can build a giant vacuum costume! That would be great!

ParticipantGreat suggestion, home stagers are a bit harder to find than realtors but I agree that they can be much more persuasive with clients.

ParticipantI worked as a V.P. of Marketing in the financial services industry (Prudential Financial, Merrill Lynch, AIG) for 16 years, wanted to spend more time with my family and less in the office (and in traffic on my way to and from the office!). My wife works as a case manager in the legal department of Johnson & Johnson here in NJ.

ParticipantIn addition to keeping the hoses and recovery tank clean and dry, I also keep a spare red hose handy (just like the recovery hose but without the supply line running through it). When I’m in a customers house I run the extra line from the exhaust port on the UM (located near the wheel) out a window or door. This vents most of the exhaust (and odor) out of the home. Nothing worse than stinking up a customer’s house. I’ve tried orange deodorizer in a pinch however sometimes “orange stank” can be just as bad. 😆
You can also use the exhaust hose trick – assuming it’s not emitting foul odors – as a make-shift air mover to help dry the stuff you are cleaning.

ParticipantI LOVE the video they have posted comparing bonnet vs HWE. I like to see corporate put something like that together for us. Simple enough and cheap to produce.

ParticipantPhone book companies have finally wised up and started bundling internet advertising along with their print ads. The price I pay for my yellow page print ads also includes advertising on Yellowpages.com and Superpages.com. This is my first year with this strategy so I have yet to see substantial results. If I do not see a measuarable impact, I plan on dumping the print ads.
Also be aware that if/when you call your rep to cancel your ads you are in a great position to get a DRASTICALLY reduced renewal rate. I have heard of operators getting 50% off their listings to re-up for another year of print advertising. At 50% off it might be worth hanging in another year.

ParticipantI am very pleased with my installer. He called me the day of the install and recommended “relief cuts” in the grooves stating that it would keep the wrap from bubbling up inthe grooves over time. I took his suggestion and the wrap looks great! The cuts are very small and hardly noticable.
My installer also uses a special glue in the grooves and around the edges of the wrap to keep theses areas from peeling up over time.
Before hiring an installer, I’d ask about “relief cuts” and edge glue to see if they offer/recommend it. If not, I’d look for another shop.

ParticipantI can’t seem to download the Additional Services sheet from the HB Ads page. Can someone please email me a copy? heavensbest2@aol.com

ParticipantGood point – I would NOT want to be the one transporting these little suckers.

ParticipantI am speaking of bed bugs not dust mites. Bed bugs feed on blood and leave small, itchy mosquito bite type marks on the skin. They can live in beds, chairs, drapery, etc.

ParticipantCarpet dying takes practice and patience. With time you will develop an eye for the color. First, when dealing with bleach, make sure to neutralize the bleach COMPLETELY or the dye will not take (learned this the hard way). It will look great day-one but the color will fade within a day or two. Add a little color at a time so that you don’t over-color and go too dark. A hair dryer comes in handy to dry the dyed carpet in between coats so that you can get a better look at the “final” dry color.
I’ve been at this for a year now and I’m still working on getting a job to match perfectly. I typically get anywhere between a 80 to 90% match and my clients are usually thrilled with the results.
Yes – a final misting with the color set will do the trick.

ParticipantThis is a great question, I’m suprised no one responded since I’m sure it’s a situation we have (or will) encounter in our travels. I have seen products like “de-smoke” solution online and in my local supply store. I assume these products would work if applied as directed.
I had the “perfect storm” of odors the other day, cigarette smoke on top of wet dog on top of dog urine. I could have spent all day with my UM trying to suck all the yuk out of that carpet. I used enzyme on the visible urine spots and pulled all the urine I could detect out with the UM.
For the rest of the room, I dumped a considerable amount of solution on the carpet and buffed the crap out of it, however it still had a not-so-nice aroma. I felt bad “covering it up” with fresh scent since It seemed like a temporary fix.
Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

ParticipantI downloaded a pic of the van from our HB website and resized it to about a 5×7. I then printed it out on photo paper (any paper will do – photo paper is nice and shiny), cut it out and used a glue stick to affix it to the side. To get the other side, I just reversed the image on my computer and printed another copy – the logo and other lettering printed backwards on the right side but it’s not that noticeable. For the hood and rear doors, I just reduced and printed small logos and glued them on.
I used a pencil eraser to remove the corporate phone number from the side of the van and then I just wrote my number in with a red sharpie.
Call me if you need any pointers. My son’s car places in the top 3 consistently each year (it’s all in the axle prep!)
