I checked with my agent and with Hartford, I am not coered if I do direct damage to the customer carpet in the home with my equipment.

I am covered if I damaged their carpet in the home from something else like a bottle of india ink I might have knocked onto the floor and I ruided the carpet from an action like that….but not from something I might have done with my equipment and work activity like if I caught a thread or fiber or something and it pulled the carpet loose…or if I forgot to spray an olefin and I melted it…I am informed that my insurance with Hartford does not cover actions like these.

    Anyone have any better information?

    Any suggestions?

    thanks,
    Dave

    Loren,

    Thanks for responding.

Would you share the name of the Ins Company? Thanks. Dave

    Gary,

Use the search feature above and type in Oreck. Read my comment on the pads. If you are using the large buffer on steps, just wait until it grabs wrong and it goes through a wall, or you nearly fall…oops!

Anyone using the large buffer is doing something very unsafe and it is only a matte of doing something that is inherently unsafe until it hurts you one way or another.

    The commercial Oreck is awesome!

    Hope this helps.

Yep…you’r right. But after SS and then us, very little will be left behind. And in any event you might get a new customer.

I could not agree more…the buffer is an absolute necessity for us.

The all-white pads are NOT good though.

Gordon, I mean insurance against me doing something dumb to the carpeting and destroying it. Like if a thread was pulled up by the machine and ripped away a bunch of carpet…what insurance pays for the damage to the carpet. Mine does not.

I have $2 million liability for damage to anything else in the home or office, like a Ming Dynasty vase that might get broken, but not for carpeting.

    Am I off base someplace?

I would like to have coverage to carpet damage that I might do, like damaging a $30k oriental or something like that…heck, even only a $5k oriental…I don’t have it in my account. I am under the impression that it is cost prohibitive to purchase this type of insurance. Am I in the broccoli or something?

Please educate this midwest-raised rookie with some good news if you don’t mind. If there is affordable insurance for carpet damage, I haven’t found it yet.

    Thanks a million..

Bonding is built into my insurance. Now I wish there was insurance for me if we did something dumb to the carpeting…what is everyone doing about that?

You might go to them and offer to clean a room for free and show them what was left behind…little trick I did once. Youmight be surprised to see what is left, especially if they have pets. You will have learned something and possibly gained a customer.

Is it within warranty from HB? It should be under a 1 year warranty or so I think. they are usually great in situations like this.

You cannot work 10 minutes without a sprayer…

If they or you cannot or will not fix the sprayer, you may have to purchase an alternate on the open market to stay in business until the unit can be fixed properly and then use that sprayer as a back-up. Having a $450 sprayer as a back up is rather pricey and maybe ignorant. If the one has flaws, the second may as well and then whee are you…holding 2 huge paperweights.

    Suggestion:

Trace all of your wiring, making sure that your positives (red wires) are all connected to positives and negatives (black wires) to negatives and no shorts exist. Bare wires against the cabinet or anything else. One thing I observed when working on the innards of my machine was the lack of protection of wiring from shorting out. That will stop the whole show. The design is pretty Rube Goldbergish if you know what I mean. It is not UL listed at all. It is homemade.

If you have an awesome hardware store near you, you might take it to someone there and they might be able to assist in trouleshooting or refer you to someone who could. I mean a great hardware store that has lots of parts for machinery on the shelves.

Hope this helps…Wish you the best..

The buffer is great, the pads are not…cannot be used on any regular basis. See previous posts over the past 2 years or possibly more on this subject.

Wish I knew. Mine came on on my 03 Ford E150, just before the annual inspection and it had to be cleared by Ford before they would pass…SCAM!!!!!! Cost me $90 to get cleared and they could find nothing wrong. It came back on a week later and could find nothing again..I will live with it for a year…

In a referral group meeting this morning, a lady mentioned to the group a lead that she had given me a week ago.

The potential customer had a large oriental, wool, ols (60-70 years old) and it was very dirty, having meen stored about 25 years. This rug was worn a little here and there, but in good shape.

She knew about color fastness and the difficulty in potentially cleaning this monster and I suggested that she might contact another, (the largest) cleaner in the area and see what they might have to say about cleaning.

    Long story short….

At the end of the meeting this morning, the member recounted much of the above further stating that the lady appreciated my comments and suggestions and integrity by not tackling something I was not positive about and risking bad results.

The lady is a chiropractor and I bet I will get some referrals from her.

BEWARE!!!!! Some of these orientals are very, very expensive!!!!

Can our individual photos be used Cody? I was told by someone that they had to go.
