How do you get this light to turn off? I’m selling my old van. It’s in good condition and nothing wrong with it. Just need to get that light to turn off. It has a new battery and alternator. I’ve read that changing the battery can cause the CE light to come on but now it won’t go off.

Many times the light will come on when you reach so many miles and some times for what ever reason. To correct it in many cases, unhook the battery for half an hour and it will reset the computor. So I’ve been told. Good luck.

Yup – usually a regular maintenance re-set is needed. Check your manual – there is a wierd way to re-set it. Really, like pump the gas twice and honk the horn – or something similarily wird!!! haha

Wish I knew. Mine came on on my 03 Ford E150, just before the annual inspection and it had to be cleared by Ford before they would pass…SCAM!!!!!! Cost me $90 to get cleared and they could find nothing wrong. It came back on a week later and could find nothing again..I will live with it for a year…

Check your owners manual. Some of the newer vehicles can be reset by following the instructions in the manual. Most auto repair shops can check if there is an error code and reset it if the battery disconnect for a half hour doesn’t work.

It is probably your oxygen sensor. Take it to your local auto parts store and they will usually put it on the computer for free to find the problem. Check owners manual to do it yourself. Usually difficult though. Oxygen sensors run about 85 to 150 bucks. Just depends on year.
