You can buy Ph strips and meters. The meters can get a little expensive. I have used the strips on some stains to try and decide how to treat a stain when I wasn’t sure what it was. Cleanfax has some information on their web site that gives suggestions on what spotters to use based on the Ph of stains and fiber type.

Thanks for the ideas on the spotter. It definetly has some kind of black stuff in the solution and the tube going to the sprayer. Of course the customer says they didn’t do any thing to the bottle/product, but as we all know, customers don’t always tell us every thing! That said, I have known these folks for a long time and believe what they are telling me. I’m sure the bottle was mixed from the spotter solution supplied by HB. Should we be putting an expiration date on the spotters if the shelf life is 2 years mixed?

    Marc,

I bring my stuff in every night as soon as we get below freezing. I had been using a portable electric heater in the van at night during the winter. Until I slept through a power outage and froze up all of my equipment. It’s only happened once in six years but I sleep better at night knowing the stuff is in the house. I bring the portable heater with me during the day when it gets in the single digits and plug it in at the customers house if they have an outdoor outlet rather than running the van. I have a cooler big enough to keep all of the product (I use smaller bottles for the product during the winter, so they don’t take as much room) so it won’t freeze. The cold weather is a pain, but it only lasts 5 or 6 months!

    Greg,
How did the silk rug come out? I know this is probably to late and it’s not much detail but I just saw some information on cleaning silk on Lisa Wagner’s web site, Therugchick.com.

Freddy’s would be a nice account for Heavens Best. Bryan is correct, they sell all sorts of products, including jewelry. Some of the stores have a larger foot print depending on the products they carry. I think they are part of the Kroger Co. which is a very big nation wide company doing business under many different names. Go get em’ Cody!

Hey you speak fluid Minnesoootan! Oooh geez ya, don’t ya know! Starts and ends most conversations in N. Minnesota. Like when a customers horse pee’d on her carpet. Oooh Geez! You called the wrong number. You need a carpet installer, don’t ya know. I didn’t ask why the horse was in the house.

    Sorry the sprayer isn’t working.

    Tim,

Have you checked to see if you have crud causing a restriction in the pump (check valve), supply line (screen/filter) or sprayer wand (jet) like Dave mentioned? There is trouble shooting information for Flo Jet on the web that will show you how to dis-assemble/assemble the pump to check. Looking for restrictions is Flo Jet’s recommended place to start for pulsating pumps. If you have a restriction, turning up the pressure might make the pump work harder to supply the product. Maybe shorten the life of the pump? Just my guess. Ask your local repair guy what he thinks!

I had this happen with a pump in a trailer. The water supply would have small pieces of crud in it that would build up in the lines and pump. Cleaned every thing up and it worked just fine.

My sprayer is working fine but I went out and pulled the screen off the supply line this evening and it had what looked like wet lint inside it. I hadn’t cleaned it since last summer. Check it out. Hope you get it figured out.

    Joni and Claude,

    Welcome to Heavens Best!

We use Quick Books Pro edition to generate our invoices. When we set up the invoice template, we included all of the information printed on the invoice books you can order from Heavens Best. Including the caution statement about the wet floors. I would be happy to send you a copy if you would like. Not sure how to put a copy on the message board.

    Tim,

I am sorry to hear you are getting such poor service from your rep’s. That would make me mad as well. The first free moment in my schedule I would be in their office asking for that rep. If he/she was not available I would ask for the manager. And I’m not leaving until I get satisfaction. Somebody at that location will want to earn their money! Make them accountable.

Didn’t take long to see how much you care about your business and how you represent HB. I really respect that. You want the people you work with to do the same. You have every right to be upset. As I mentioned in my post earlier. It took a couple of reps. before I got the right one. Shouldn’t have to be that way. But it can take a while to hit the right one. Customer service can be so simple yet alot of people just don’t get it or try!

Hope you get this resolved soon.

    Greg,

Good advice by all. We always need to make decisions based on whats best for our business. What works for one operator may not work for another. Yellow pages are not a big business generator for me, by it’s self. But it is part of my advertising plan.

The reps. we have are very professional. Build a good working relationship with all your advertising reps. My reps. contact me at least once a month. If I don’t hear from them, I call them. We may not have anything major to share, but we are building a good working relationship. I was not very good at this when I first started. I always ask a rep. what I can do for them. If the first thing that comes out of their mouth is buy more advertising, look out. If they respond, keep me up dated on how we are helping you grow your business, number of calls, type of work generated, etc, you have a partner. I went through a couple of reps. before I found the right one. Your the customer. The customer is always right! Hold them accountable just like your customers do you.

    Thanks for sharing your ideas.

    Hi Greg,

I have found they get a little crazier as the deadline approches for the book to go to publication. Our deadline is the first of April. So I usually call him around the first of the year to get it done.

I run a 1/6 page ad. This is large enough that it usually gets me placement on the first page of carpet cleaners. In two books. Dex Pages and PDC Pages. Both generate about the same amount of calls. PDC is much more affordable because it is new to the area and trying to gain business.

I’ve spent a lot of time getting better at fiber ID and any special processes based on the fiber type. Lots of good tips on cleanfax.com. Practice on your own upholstery.

It was a great seminar and we would like to thank all those responsible for the hard work that went into putting it on. You did a great job! Thanks to everyone for sharing your ideas and success stories with us. I learned a great deal from each of you. What a wonderful resource of information. And best of all, great people! We learned and laughed (a lot). I hope we get to see everyone at the next one.

Tim, thanks for the kind words about Kathlynn. I am very proud of her! I will be sure she see’s your message.

    Thanks again to all!

    Rick
