I agree this would be helpful, I have a struggle with some just to get the report we have. One thing to look at is how much hardwood, tile and grout products they are ordering. Also ask what other service they are counting in the total. I had one owner doing power washing as well. (not on carpets) I asked him not to include this # with the totals.

    Evan,
Ask them what they are being charged? Are they happy with the current/past cleaners? If they are not happy with the current and you measure and find they are charging 15 cents a sq, go to 17. If they are happy with the current you have to determine if you are willing the clean for the same price or not. If they are not happy, knowledge is power, find out why they are unhappy and make the guarantee that it will never be a problem with you. IE… I got an apt complex because they were never knowing when they (the former) was ever coming to clean. I promised to be there when I said I would and I also got 2 cents a sq more! A couple of years later I got 2 more cents a sq for adding orange deodorizer. They loved smelling orange for a couple of days after cleaning. I have continually cleaned this place for over 15 years. Hope this helps.

It really depends on the operator, what type of relationship you have with them, and what level of the business they are in. Will it be a better relationship if you go or will they feel you are prying as though they feel, you feel they are not doing something right.
It’s nice for all to visit family if you don’t take up residence. It is again about balance. Even the visit itself can be over a meal or spending the whole day. To me it’s all about the needs of the operator.

I don’t have the answer either, however, even water leaves a residue. Also water is a chemical H2O. I find it interesting when customers ask if we clean with chemicals. I tell them yes! 80% of our cleaner is the chemical H2O, and 20% is trade secret. However is also know we don’t use harmful chemicals. My health and the health of my family is far to important.

Come up with at least five ways this can benefit the customer and you may have something. If not it just sounds like chem dry’s cheesy way of sales above service. They have had one that the carpet must be cleaned every six months and exclusions that are more worthless than carpet manufactures warranties. They do charge allot for allot of hype. We need to be sales oriented servicemen, not salesman alone. “Over serve and under sell”. This is the key. Serve them with protector because they will benefit from it. So will we!

Answer… Since selling my area to my son in law in March of this year, I haven’t done advertising except as a state owner.

When I was with Chem Dry (I apolegize for cussing on the board), they did a study to find the most spontanious day of the week. The answer came back that there was two, one for inside the house, and one for outside the house. The outside was Friday. New movies at the theaters are on Friday. On Friday we think about getting out of town or just going to do something. Friday was the spontanious outside the house day. Tuesday was inside the house day. New release day to purchase movies and CD’s are generally on Tuesdays. It was the day most grocery inserts in the newspaper came out. With this knowledge I only advertised on Tuesday. However this study was done in 1991. Currently the biggest newspaper day nationally is Sunday. Advertising for cleaning I would still recommend Tuesday.

The first of the week last week, Jesse & Saria (my daughter) bought and brought home their new GMC 4X4 full size van with logos. Going to their first job, they noticed their main competitor right behind them. Saria adjusted the side mirror so she could see. When the new van turned right, the competitors eyes got big and their mouth’s dropped. Conclusion: very intiminating!
    I love this company!!!

    Sorry you all.
I was at scout camp with my youngest son during this topic. When I was at a motel while making visits to operators, the internet service went down and so did all my yellow points of post ‘s unread. I will be seeing Neil in about a week and we’ll be talking about it.

I feel that if the name “Heavens Best” is used, the non HB products should be aproved by corporate. Not only from a legal issue but also a franchise issue. If someone would like to try a product, and called the corporate office they may learn the product has been tried and is junk (saving expense, time, and frustration) or it may turn out to be a great product that corporate can further research and benifit all. Either way I wouldn’t want to have someone just using anything and tarnish the name.

I have been making my visits. Sorry for not responding the last few days. I have found the figures to be more true to $1,500 to $2,500. due to FAE, tile and grout, and protector sales. I would say that $2,500 should be the exception, not the rule. I have some really good operators doing closer to the $2,500 range. Brian Sutton (Mr. Protector!) because he sells allot of protector. Look at all the products being used. It is a great program. (HB Finance program that Holly showed us in SLT.) Check the history before you muddy the water with an operator.

I’m listening. Sometimes I wait to think over what has been said. When it comes to cost, I look to the return on investment (ROI). I’ve seen allot of benefit from the jump drive. This is not the proper place to post this. However, I feel the SO meeting went well. The main thing I look at from a SO meeting, is what do I need to do to better myself and to benefit the whole. I came out of the meeting with a more clear direction. I have put allot of time in doing the things mentioned at the meeting. I also take some time to review the agenda and my notes. When things bring results then I will tell of the success.
