Bret WootonParticipant
Ad words for Dummies is also a pretty good resource. Don’t forget, there seems to be a ton of help just from your Ad words account page and on you tube.
Bret WootonParticipantme too.
Bret WootonParticipantJudging from the lack of replies, I would guess not many….
Bret WootonParticipantIs there a specific program that allows you to do e-blasts or can it be done from outlook?
Bret WootonParticipantI too have done plenty of shows and they do work well when you are active in engaging attendants. If you sit back and let people walk by, it could be a waste of money. Corporate has a display that could work well.
Bret WootonParticipantI’ve been pushing for a good website to drive cleaning business for a long time now. It doesn’t make sense to me that individual operators have to build their own websites because the corporate website doesn’t do enough to drive carpet cleaning business.
I am in the process of developing a website that will be available for all operators to use that won’t be territory specific. It will simply have good information about carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, wood floors and tile and grout. There will be a big button that will link to the find an operator page on the heavensbest website. The site will be specifically designed to drive retail business and nothing else. The domiain is http://www.yourheavensbest.com. Currently it just has an low res coupon ad on it, but the new version should be up by March. Feel free to use it.
Bret WootonParticipantIn the Pacific Northwest we know a little bit about rain also. Keep in mind, we don’t see the type that you were getting, we see a constant drizzle for about 6 months with some sun breaks and showers thrown in. I have always been jealous of these operators that see record months in the winter, when it’s all we can do to stay afloat. (no pun intended) Carpet cleaning business certainly slows down when it’s wet. New customers don’t think they can have carpets cleaned in the winter because of excessive dry times, and our customers that know better want to wait until the rain stops. Many don’t see the point in paying for carpet cleaning when people are sloshing in the door. They wait to clean up the mess, usually until April or May.
My advice would be to put your best specials out during the wet times. People will call when the rain stops.Bret WootonParticipantInteresting. I always thought the encapsulation products were of the powdered sort. What has Cody had to say about this?
Bret WootonParticipantThanks Justin. I did eventually find the area to input the zip codes. I understand the newsletter often has good information in it, but I would guess that there is a good portion of HB operators that don’t read it religiously or, like me, they just skim through it to look for specific things. I think that it would be helpful to have a specific headline or an attention line in the newsletters that would draw attention to a change like this where operator involvement is necessary; especially if it is time sensitive. Also, more e-mail alerts could get you more involvement. Personally, I read the newsletter more frequently when it was e-mailed. Now, I don’t open it as often. Maybe we should go back to emailing the newsletter in a link that directs us to the HB website.
Bret WootonParticipantJustin,
Why is this thing live before all operators have input their zip codes? I too noticed the finder and, to my surprise, didn’t find my info. in any of my zip codes. It makes me wonder how many jobs that I may have lost by a potential customer finding our website (through money that I’m spending) and typing in their zip and seeing that there is no operator there. The site doesn’t re-direct them to the other finder, just tells them there isn’t an operator in that zip. What was going through all of your minds in Rexburg when you dicided to go live without full participation? The least you can do for us is automatically re-direct to the original finder that has full participation. The best would be to shut this feature down until you have full participation or input them yourselves if you’re in such a hurry to get this redundent feature up. I know this feature won’t sell new franchises, but it does effect our businesses and I would appreciate more consideration for our existing franchises.
Bret WootonParticipantI’m not sure exactly, but it sounds like you are talking about search engine optimization, a process that moves your website toward the front of web searches.
It just so happens that my sister is somewhat of an expert in that field. She has explained to me that most companies that provide this service do so through pretty generic means that will produce modest gains, at best. She has explained to me that in order to do this effectively, the SEO would have to get to know not only your business, but your industry to learn which words and terms are most searched for. This takes time tracking results and adjusting accordingly. This is also optimized through pay per click sites and other pre-paid sites that get alot of traffic. In order to get improvement on “organic” searches, you have to start there. I am working with her currently on starting this process with my own site. I’ll let you know how this progresses.Bret WootonParticipantI just booked a job at probably the most expensive house I’ve ever been in above downtown Portland.
They had a company out previously that is considered to be the largest high-end cleaner in our market. The cleaners threw their hands up at the filtration line problem and told the housekeeper that the owners would have to replace the carpets or live with the dark spots created by the tack strips and the filtration lines.
I went in yesterday and did a test area for the housekeeper and the interior designer and they loved the reult. After the lady of the house reviews it, we are going to schedule one van to be there for at least 2 days at $100/hour to take care of all the filtration lines and clean a few hundred square feet of carpet where a U.S. Senator dribbled some coffee.
Evidently, nobody in town that I’m aware of is able to completely remove filtration lines as we are. Fast Acting Enzyme is making me alot of $$$$.
Bret WootonParticipantWe run 2 vans in Portland, OR and we run credit cards maybe 60-75% of the time. For us it’s a matter of convienience and the cost is minimal at best. Our average job is around $170 and we are getting charged around 1.6% to 1.8%, I belive, when the card isn’t present to swipe. If we swipe a card (which we do most of the time) the cost goes down to something like 26 cents for MC. At the end of the day, the 50 or 70 bucks a month we spend on merchant services far offsets the time to make deposits and the risk of bounced checks, not to mention the convenience that is afforded to customers who don’t have to be present to pay at a vacancy or while they’re at work. The customer convenience is HUGE.
Bret WootonParticipantAs I mentioned in LV, we send mailers to all of our current customers and our list gathered from homeshows. We’ve been collecting these lists for about 2 and a half years now and have approx. 900 customers and 1200 potential or “list” customers.
Our 1st quarter mailing ($30 off) this year went to all of those people and we’ve billed over $7,600 in the first quarter. We still have jobs on the books from that mailer that will count for the second quarter.
An easy way to do this is to find a pre-sort company and send them the graphic files and your lists and they can reproduce the mailer and mail them. In our case, we saved about 20-25% in cost and didn’t have to stamp or label them. (Usually an entire evenings worth of work)
The company that I use is called Metro Pre-Sort out of Portland, OR. Google them and maybe they can work with you remotely. My contact is Brad.Bret WootonParticipantIt’s the additional services sheet that you can download frot the operators area on this website. It’s right under the highlighted operator. Make your own modifications or use it as is, just use it!
