Do you guys use any special techniques or products you use when cleaning wool carpets?

I have a number of customers with wool. Most of them are pretty good about frequent cleaning to keep the wool in good shape. Every once in a while we get a new customer with wool that has just been straight up abused. And I have to deliver the bad news: wool cleans up very poorly and those stains are probably going to be there when I leave your house.

Here’s the process we use: vacuum very thoroughly, regular 101 mixture with a bit of orange deodorizer, woven turf pads or white pads only. Spray, buff, rake in some fresh scent to knock down the wet dog smell, done.

Anything special that you use on wool that might help get better results when cleaning?

Oddly enough, I feel like wool area rugs clean up better than wall to wall wool carpeting. Not sure why that would be the case…

For 2 years I was using fast acting enzyme on wool. Finally realized that was a terrible idea because the ph is too high. And it didn’t seem like it helped with traffic areas and staining on wool anyways.

We use Quick boost 1 scoop per gallon, and mix 50 to 1 with orange deodorizer. this helps in the traffic areas. we also add a large bath towel, (bulk from Costco), folded in half, then place a pad in the middle and fold edges in. We do not recommend pet or Fast acting Enzymes. the fresh scent seems to leave a stickiness to the carpet.
