Just a reminder, when cleaning tile/grout, it is always beneficial to ask the customer what they use to clean their tile/grout before you start your job. If they use any form of product that includes wax, i.e. Mop N Glow, it can negatively affect your cleaning results. Wax can prevent cleaning products (both grout cleaner and acid cleaner) from actually reaching the soil. One way to test if there is wax is to take a small amount of acid (eye dropper is good method) and put some on the grout. Acid usually reacts with grout/concrete and can create a bit of “fizzing”, which will show that it is reaching the grout itself and there is probably no wax barrier in between. Otherwise, wipe the area you applied acid to with a towel and see if there is a difference as this will be another indicator. Make sure not to test the tile itself with the acid as some tile (see marble and other polished stones) can be etched by the acid. For this reason, an eye dropper is usually an effective means to safely test. If there is a wax, it needs to be stripped away ($$$) before you start cleaning to achieve the best results.

What kind of acid do you use again?

Sounds like a bad personal experience your talking about. 🙁

Product 160 in HB store is our hard surface acid. I was not referring to a specific instance we encountered (or I don’t think I was but I could have been as it was almost a year ago), rather just a reminder/fyi when dealing with tile/grout cleaning. Too many homeowners and maid/maintenance crews use clean AND wax type products and that wax can potentially build up over time and great poor cleaning results if it isn’t removed first.
