Anyone else have problems with the Oreck Stair Buffers cracking on the base where the handle connects? We have 2 buffers, and we’ve had to take both to machine shops to get this crack welded. One of them just cracked again for the 2nd time. Just curious if this problem is unique to my technicians, or if others are experiencing similar issues. I will try to attach a pic tomorrow.

I haven’t had that problem knock on wood. but I have had the bushings go out where the handle attaches. and the screws through the motor that attach to the base have come out.

I have had 2 of them crack. It is a manufacturing issue. The corners of the handle openings are square. The corners should be rounded a bit to prevent a high stress point that creates the crack. My suggestion is to eliminate the sharp corner with a small round file. If the case is aluminum, a good aluminum welder should be able to weld it up so it will hold. Don’t forget to round the corners. If it is Zinc, the material is hard to weld and probably won’t stand up to the vibration. You can also try drilling the smallest possible hole at the very end of the crack to prevent it from getting longer.
