My stair buffer stopped working while I was in the middle of cleaning a set of stairs. I have power (the light is on) but the motor won’t spin. It’s either one of the two switches or the motor has went out. The reset button doesn’t seem to want to reset. Have any of you had this problem before? If so what did you do to fix it?

    Welcome to the board!
I haven’t had any problem with mine. I would call corporate. They seem to be the expert “talk you through it over the phone, guys.”

They all must be going at the same time. Ours just went out, and did the same exact thing. But it was on the weekend. So you need to find a local oreck store and if it’s still under warranty tell them to fix it. For us it turned out to be a bad motor, and they replaced it. Also when we used it with the old motor it smelled like it was burning. I haven’t had a chance to try the new 1 yet we just got it back today. But if all else fails call corp. Hope this helps.

Mine has smelled like it was burning since the first time I used it. It looks like I may be next.

Mine has smelled hot from the first day it ran. I had it checked out twice, no problems they say. Lately the themal protection button has been popping out. The first time it was after cleaning 6 steps. I cleaned the other 6 steps 20 minutes later. Second time it popped after 3 steps. Took 3 tries to clean the flight of stairs. Last time it popped after 1 1/2 steps. They took forever to clean. Luckily I hasd a lot of other carpet to clean waiting for the thing to cooldown. It is going to the repair store this next week.

Whoa! I’ve been seriously thinking about buying one of these! Guess there are some manufacturing defects which need to be checked out!

    Jeff,

All things need work from time to time, even my marriage of almost 25 years!

Go ahead and buy one. three complaints out of four hundred and fifty is less them 1%… 99% is not a bad rating!

If the stair buffer was really that bad, it wouldn’t be on the “Heaven’s Best” list. I love mine!

I had a similar issue with mine at about my 6th month mark. It would heat up faster than normal. It has a 1 yr warranty and my local Oreck dealer repaired it free of charge due to the warranty. The problem with mine was a loose relay switch. No problems since (I am at month 16 now).

I have it at an Oreck Store getting looked at. I will let everyone know the outcome. For those of you on the fence about the stair buffer I say buy it. I can’t imagine doing stairs any other way. I love it and miss it badly.

I just think a 1/2 hp or 3/4 hp would be much better.

Mine have done the same thing on occasion…stopping. I click the on/off switch several time and nudge it with the step and starts right back up. The burning smell at first working the machine is normal.

To use the Nobles on steps is far too dangerous compared to the Oreck…

    Hope the above helps.

I finally got my buffer back from Oreck. It took almost 8 weeks to fix a short in the main wire. Besides it taking so long I was very happy getting it back. If you do not have the brush for your Oreck you might want to get it. It really works well on dirty stairs. They run about $30 and works like the dirt napper. If anyone is thinking about not ordering or using the Oreck you are out of your minds!!! I truly missed every minute of not having mine. I am glad it is home and can’t wait to clean some stairs. Thanks for everyones help and info!

its kinda like the dirt napper, they sell it at the oreck store the only difference is you don’t put a pad in the middle of it so you go over the stairs with the mini dirt napper then back over them with pads and they turn out GREAT!!
