Have a customer who’s maid moped their newer wood floor, about a 1000 sq.ft., several times with Mop & Glo. This has resulted in a build-up that gives the wood floor a less than desirable look! Any ideas on how to safely remove this build-up?

Why in the world would anyone put that stuff on a wood floor???? It will most likely have to be sanded and refinished. Stripping it would get it too wet and it may swell and cause it to buckle. If it were vinyl floor or tile you will have to use a floor finish stripping product to remove it. Chances are it will turn into a bunch of goo which is very messy and time consuming to remove. I hate it when that stuff is on the floor. You may want to always ask if that or anything like that is on the floor and adjust the price accordingly.

Loren, to answer your question, as to why anyone would put Mop & Glo on wood, well… in California we have lots of (highered help) people who clean houses who can’t or don’t want to read instructions on cleaning lables! Today, I tried buffing with steel wool and had minimal results. Friday I’m going back and applying “Green Essence”, a green seal approved stripping product. We will apply lightly, allow time for the buildup to desolve and quickly remove it before moisture has a chance to penetrate the wood joints. Hopefully, this will work. The home owner realizes his floor could be damaged and willing to try this last ditch effort before replacing all the wood ($21,500.00 worth). I’ll keep you posted and thanks for your reply! Peace out.

Thanks for reminding me that there are those people out there that do not think or read instructions. I come across them too often.

For those who would like to know, the hardwood Mop & Glo stripping project I started last Friday went very well! The Green Essence product initally used in the cleaning and stripping worked, just ok! This product was enviromentally safe and all that other stuff but took way to long to dissolve the wax build-up. So, I tried Heavens Best Wax Stripper (never used prior to this project) and it melted the wax like hot butter, without damaging the expensive wood I was working on, as this was my biggest concern. At times, this was somewhat of a heart pounding experiance because you don’t always know how the chemicals and water will effect the wood finish and whether it will all warp and buckle over-night! This project took 2 people and 10.5 hours to complete. I charged $1200 and the customer was very pleased. The original cost of the wood floor was $21,500. I know some of you are saying… should have charged way more but these people are retired, on a fixed income, live in a very nice neighbor-hood, made lunch for me and the boys, and promised to tell all their friends and neighbors about Heavens Best. Peace out brothers.
