Just wondering if anyone out there can recommend a good company that does google advertising. I’m not happy with the current company i’m using. My ad is consistently showing up number 4,5 or 6. I’m trying to be within the top 3. Anyone having any luck?
Do you mean for improving your Organic ranking or within google advertising ?.
What is your budget that you are spending? How much is the company that you are using cost in comision? What companies have you tried? It might be time to do it yourself. It takes a little time to get it down, but it is not that hard. I just looked up your cities and you seem to be in the top 3 most of the time. I myself never like to be number 1 due to cost, but I do like top 2-5. Some times 4 is a great spot if it takes you to the top on the left hand side.

Just curious. We have not had a website before this year and it is located at heavensbestlancaster.com and would like to learn a couple of things 1) Just what does it cost to get into the top 4-5 places? and 2) Does it pay? meaning a 10:1 return on investment.

For paid advertising on Google just handle it yourself. It is really easy to setup and if you start small it does not cost much at all. I would suggest targeting only a couple of keywords to start. For starters take the biggest city name in your target area and under keyword selection you would choose cityname carpet cleaning, carpet cleaning cityname
Google will suggest many others but for now just use two of them and for the ad you should test things like:
Healthy Clean Carpets
Dry in about an hour
http://www.yourdomain.comThey key to proper ad wording is to find what works best in your area, for example if you find many customers are choosing your company because of fast dry times run that in the ad or if your customers are more green use something about clean green. The idea is to run an ad for 2 or 3 days and then make one small change and test again. Do this and your click rate will improve and in the process your price per click will drop.
If your having a slow day you can run an ad that says: Same Day Service, I have had some real good success with this one.
For the first month or so you should only be going for positions 2 – 5, with the goal of being about 3rd.
You can set a monthly max budget so you don’t have to worry about spending a huge amount of money.

Your area has very little in online competition so you should focus on organic rankings as it will be easy to get top rankings. the most used phrase by someone searching on Google for carpet cleaning in your area is: carpet cleaning lancaster pa – this phrase gets almost 400 searches a month and the number one ranked site in natural searches is: http://www.certifiedcarpet.com and this website has a very small number of backlinks and it not well optimized. This information along with the number of competing pages (44,200) makes this an easy target and your site could be number one on Google within a month.
Here is a quick run down of what needs to be done:
1. You used yahoo site builder and as often happens with this method your site is so close to others that Google considers your site to be of little value as it already has others so much alike. A website called copyscape.com compares pages online and lets you know if it is too much like other pages for google to accept as unique content. When I run your site through the following other sites come up:

Rewrite the contact to make it unique and be sure to use your keyword phrase: carpet cleaning lancaster pa, carpet cleaning lancaster pa
2. Your site should always have a sitemap that is google friendly. If you do a search on google for free sitemap generators you will find lots of programs to help you with this.
3. Build backlinks, this is the biggest factor right now as far as ranking on Google. A backlink is just a link from a website that is pointed to your site. You can add your site to free online directories, industry related sites, online yellow page type of sites, forum’s, blogs, etc.
When you add the backlink it should be with your keyword phrases so for your website you would want the clickable text to read: lancasterpacarpetcleaning carpetcleaninglancasterpa
and then the actual link itself would be: http://www.heavensbestlancaster.com
You can do lots of things to improve your sites ranking but because of such small competition in your area I think if you did just the 3 steps I listed you will be number one within a month.
Hey Dave just by doing the first couple of things we talked about you are already #15 on Google. If you work on step 3 some you will move up fast.
I am already backlinking…thanks sooooo much. From time to time if you would check it would be appreciated. I learned that .edu and .gov are especially powerful…but I am gong to directories, etc…

It’s a myth about dot edu domains being worth more then others. It was true in the early days but the college kids destroyed it with blogs so now Google treats them just like the rest. The dot GOV domains are still helpful but not many places to get them so just focus on link building and about the best ones to get are industry related so try and get some of them.

By natural backlinking, I have moved t about 8 or 9 on the page and also at the bottom…Plus, within 3 wks I got another backlink recognized…all due to Greg.
I cannot wait to see what happens when the rest of them kick in…

Don’t count on it. Nothing ever happens within 30 days for Google, yahoo maybe but not Google. Seeing that you have so little comp. just focus on getting 15-20 PR4 or higher links and you’ll be golden.
Also ensure that you have your top 2-3 keyword phrases in your title tag, alt tags and at least 1 H1 tag. Your page needs a minimum of 400 words preferably 500-600 and have your keywords spread throughout about 4-8 times. If you can get them in the very top of the page (content) the better but beware “keyword stuffing”. Make it sound natural.
If this is a new website you may see a sudden top rankings in the organic search results but then disappear. This is normal so don’t freak out, just focus on getting links. Oh, and don’t have every link with the same exact keyword phrase. Change it up a bit to so it looks like natural occurring links.
I just checked Dave and you are ranking #2 or #3 depending on the data center so your moving up pretty nicely. I noticed you have not showing on the local maps you should ad your site, if you need help give me a call and I will talk you thru it.
Greg Lucas how do I improve our organic ranking to get higher up on the first page. When i type in carpet cleaners jacksonville florida we are on the bottom of the first page. Their is web a service in jacksonville that has been trying to get me to use their services, he called me the other day & said he got me on the first page sure enough he got me from page 5 to page 1 and he if I wanted to stay on the first page he could do that for me, but I cannot afford to pay his fee. Could you explain to me how again how i could do this. Thank you very much for the time you guys have taken in the past to help us with this. Also thank you to Greg Miller.

The first concern I have is why would you want to target “carpet cleaners jacksonville florida”, very few people search using that phrase, here are some phrases to target:
1. carpet cleaning jacksonville
2. jacksonville carpet cleaning
3. carpet cleaners jacksonville
4. carpet cleaners in jacksonvilleThe following four phrases get the majority of the traffic in your area for carpet cleaning. Now let’s look at the competition
carpet cleaning jacksonville (# of competing pages is 266,600) which is just a little above the phrase you mentioned but it gets much more traffic. The level of competition is very low and easy to rank for. You need to change the title tags on your site. For example your home page has a title tag that says:
HEAVEN’S BEST JIM , It should say:Carpet cleaning jacksonville The 2nd step is backlinks, your site is showing about 90 backlinks and the #1 competitor in your area is showing about 350 links so if you change your title tags and do some link building you will not only rank on the first page but you should be able to get in the top 3 pretty easy.
