Over a year ago I purchased a 4 CF Electrolux front loading washer from Lowes ($12-1400.00) because of the new larger size tub. It holds 9 brown pads or 16 green turf pads. The bigger size without going to a commercial unit was why I bought it. It has proven to be a good choice for me. I wash up to100 green pads and up to 100 brown pads a week so it is heavily used. I hate laundromats because they do not wash well enough, pads are cleaner but not clean enough for me. Laundromats wash big qualities at once but what I really wanted was cleaner pads. With the Electrolux I have given up quantity cleaning for quality cleaning. I perhaps spend more time doing laundry but the results are worth the difference for four reasons.

    1. I now have the time to wash a load most any time during the day. Employees do the carpet cleaning and I run everything else. I need to wash three loads a day to keep up. So its no big deal, I put one in the morning, one at noon or so and one at the end of the day.

    2. The quality of the cleaning is far superior. The pads no longer have gray rings. The edge is as clean as the center. Even black greasy restaurant dirt comes out every time. The key to this superior cleaning are the techniques I use during the first wash cycle. All washers have pre set water levels. With front loaders they always use too little water to clean our filthy pads. They were designed to wash clothes not our pads, so I simple add 2-3 gallons of hot water to this cycle by way of a hose to the detergent drawer. The water level is 2-3 inches up on the door but not enough to trigger the cut off switch all washers have. The Electrolux has a unique cycle that heats the water in this first cycle to the point that all stains, dirt, grease and whatever comes out every time. I have not ever rewashed a load. The remainder of the cycle goes automatically so I am there for an extra 3-4 minutes after I load the washer to add the 2-3 gallons.

    3. The pads are cleaner and this means they are lasting longer. I noticed this about half way through the year. I usually order a few new pads every six months, but I didn’t need to this time. All the pads look great with minimal fiber loss. They are cleaner and they last longer! I surmised the washing from laundromat cleanings left some dirt in the pads and this shortens their life. Much like dirt left in the carpet shortens their life. Cleaner pads mean I save $$ and do not need new pads as often.

    4. I paid for the washer in one year. (not including the hot water expense) I am not able to exactly determine this.

The trade off is as I wrote earlier. Quantity of time vs. quality of cleaning. Hope this helps someone to decide. Call me if you want at 509-664-0199

my washer has a sanitize or heated cycle as well, but i have been slow to use it because i was worried about the heat effecting the pads. have you had any issues with that? also do you use any additional detegent? or just let the remaining product in the pads do the work?
