First, let me say that I have been using Angie’s List for over a year now and have been very happy with the results. However, I recently had a situation arise with them that is very concerning from an ethical stand point.

Without getting too long on details, someone whom I have never done business with (and from another state) left a very negative review on my profile page. I thought that this individual may have made a mistake placing it there, so I contacted Angie’s List to get it resolved. They had me do several things to verify that this customer was connected to me in any way. That took over a week to do and once I was cleared of any connection with this individual, they informed me that they would contact this customer to see what happened and to get it resolved.

Well, after several weeks of me prodding them on a status, they finally informed me that they could not get in touch with the customer and that this customer would not respond back to their inquiries. They went on to inform me that it is Angie’s List Policy that the bad review remain on my profile page since they could not contact the customer that left it (regardless if it is legit or not).

I have tried on numerous occasions to speak with their management on this, but they refuse to comment any further on the issue and refuse to take the review down. I have just emailed some of their top executive management to include both co-founders of the company in hopes to get some resolution on this. As far as I am concerned, this is defamation of character. I will let you know what I find out from their top brass. Hopefully, I will not have to escalate this further.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know about this policy of theirs in case you are currently using Angie’s List or considering to use them.

Update. After emailing the senior management, I received a call from a manager to let me know they were re-opening the case. In short, they did some more research and got back with me to let me know that they had taken down the miscellaneous review.
