    Mark,
From your post I took that you where asking how to pay your employee. Is that correct? I pay my employee a percentage. Hourly doesn’t make sense because a guy can drag his feet all day and make more money. Percentage encourages them to sell more to make more. As far as figuring out when you need a second van-I made the jump when I was already running two techs in a van and pushing jobs a week out. I was losing jobs because I couldn’t service them quick enough. Those jobs that I now get more than pay for the second van. Also now I can usually get someone an appointment in two to three days. Hope that helps.

    David,
Don’t be affraid to charge more for red dye removals-especially when they’ve been told it won’t come out and you get it out. I usually tell my customers that red removal starts at $20. If it’s in the middle of the room or a highly visible area it starts at $30.

I’ve found that a steele wool pads will do a job or two depending on the size. The polishing pads last longer – as long as you make sure the wax has hardened before polishing. You’ll know when the polishing pad is done for by the way it starts to leave an uneven look.

Follow the process and everything will be fine. Make sure to not apply too much wax. It’ll take forever to harden and when you go to buff it it will look streaky. Have fun-welcome to the world of wood cleaning.

I think we need to generate more brand recognition in the form of national advertising. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again-the best way to sell new franchises is by making our existing operators more successful.
Ask operators if they would want national advertising. Ask what they would be willing to pay for that advertising. We are on the right path with the new logo/image but we need to take it to the next level.
    more recognition= more interest.

If I were to clean and protect my homes trafiic areas and stairs, which my mix already has deodorizer/sanitizer in it, I would charge $600. Chem Dry quoted me $960. Their prices are ridiculous. I have had a few new customers recently tell me they received estimates from Chem Dry that were far more expensive than my prices. That’s fine with me-look who did the job. Chem Dry is going to price themselves out of the market in my area if they keep trying to get those outrageous high prices. My customer base will continue to grow while theirs will shrink.
On a side note, at the last home show I did, Chem Dry was shoved into the back corner of the Home Depot booth where you couldn’t even see them. Home Depot is sure doing great things for Chem Dry……. 😉

I agree with you Pat. In mid Feb. I sent my operators two packets each and asked them to hand them out. I offered a $1000 finders fee for a Kentucky sale and explained they would receive a $500 finders fee if the sale is outside of Kentucky. So far a few of my operators have passed out at least one of the two packets already. Reminding them of this opportunity to make extra money can sometimes be encouragement enough.

Don’t hold me to this, but I thought I heard talk of a video on spot dyeing coming out in the future?

Spend less on drinking? Is bottled water and soda pop cheaper in Rexburg? I wasn’t aware that there are that many airlines going in and out of Idaho falls now and that we would have transportation provided for us. I’m looking forward to another meeting. Do we have dates nailed down yet?

All good ideas. I think the pitch is important. A 5-10 second pitch that draws in the buyer.
“Hello, I’d like to introduce you to HB Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning, We are the nations fastest growing C&U cleaning franchise beacause of our 98% operator success rate.” Extended- “On top of that, our proprietary cleaning products along with our proven cleaning methods produce some of the best cleaning results in our industry.”
    The pitch is key!
    Hope this helps.

Just to clarify, I didn’t mean to suggest the internet was the only way we should be advertising. I run ads in local papers. I think the D&P shows will be affective. I do know unhappy employees sitting in front of a computer at the job thay dont like will look on the internet to find something else they might be interested in.

    Cody,
thank you for clarifying the $500 fee on all leads that come from corporates advertising dollar. I think that’s more than fair.
To expand on what Laura mentioned regarding the ad fee.
    25 state owners(?) X $200 = $5000 a month
    300 million pop in U.S. X $20 per million = $6000 a month
This to me seems like a better option. Some owners will pay more, but they are the ones with more areas to sell, and seem to be the ones receiving majority of the leads. The purchase price of a state shouldn’t be a factor.
If you have more carpet in your home than your neighbor does, you will pay more than your neighbor to have your carpets cleaned. How much the carpet cost is irrelevant.
