Just a thought to go along with dave’s tips, if your van isn’t tracking good (it pulls hard to the left or right) it may save you money in the long run to get it aligned. It should be more fuel effecient and your tires will wear more evenly. I got my car balanced and aligned not to long ago for $55.

I also realize and want to make note that it is normal for most US vehicles to pull slightly to the right, and that’s okay.

    Jeremy,

I have kept section 3 (chemicals and procuducts) up to date. In addition to the product info, you’ll also find the MSDS sheets there.

Go to the city owners section > Procedures Manual (Broke down by Sections) > Section 3
    or use this link:
    http://heavensbest.com/media/Section_3.pdf

There you can find all the details about each item in the new kits. Just make sure you have adobe reader, and away you go!

Ron, you can change almost anything on the backside of the ad with the new FXpress ordering system. Right now, the option to change the images isn’t offered, but you can easily run specials for tile and grout. You can change the wording on every line. All the details can be found under the “franchise express” button after you login to the operators only section. As far as the as the front of the flier and the images on the back, the plan is to have a new ad each run for each month. For anything beyond that, you might think about just shooting Cody and e-mail. Hope that helps.

    Ron,
We are looking at revamping the whole process of obtaining the files you need for advertisements, this will include making them availalbe in several formats. I will be able to expound more on that in a week or so. If it goes poorly though, we still have plans to make the ads compatible with more systems regardless. Just wanted to let you know I’m working on that one.

A lot of the PDA’s on the Market today can have the appointments and contacts from outlook imported into them in one format or another. If your PDA can do this, then you can import your contacts and appointments into your PDA.

I can’t answer all questions about QB just yet, but I can tell you it is what I am presenting to the incoming training groups. Here are some answer that have helped other operators that have contacted me:

Customer manager is designed to sync up primarily with outlook and quickbooks. It does support the importing of data from quickbooks, csv, excel, access, outlook, and outlook express. Imports from quicken can also be performed.

You may use this program with Quicken instead of Quickbooks, but you will have a limited level of support as I do not have a copy of Quicken to work with.

The Intuit website is a great resource, you can view info about customer manger here, and I’m sure at many other places on the website:
    http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/add_ons/customer_management.jhtml

You can demo quickbooks simple start 2007 at: http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/about_quickbooks/trials.jhtml

I wasn’t able to find an actual demo of the customer manager unfortunately.

Customer manager allows you to sync to outlook, which many PDA’s/Smarthphones can already sync to. You can export it to a csv or xls from outlook and open on a viewer program that supports these formats on your PDA. Most of this depends on your phone, if you can sync with outlook appointments and contacts, then you can get that info from customer manager to your PDA.

If you have other questions, please feel free to post them and I will do my best to answer.

For a free solution that isn’t a resource hog, try Clamwin

    http://www.clamwin.com/content/view/18/46/

Definitions are updated often, it integrate also with outlook, and overall has worked well for me. Remember you will still need a firewall to go along with this as it does not have one built in. It also has no “live” protection, files need to be scanned to find a virus.

Norton is hard on your computer if you don’t have a lot of processing power to go with it. I would almost double the minimum requirements if you don’t want to get bogged down. Both norton and mcaffee are great once you have them set to behave the way you want them to instead of vice versa.

Currently the software is being phased out as we switch over to Quickbooks. We don’t expect any further updates to be applied to it. I am still happy to try and answer questions about the software though.

I just wanted to make mention about adding the additional fee for people paying with credit cards…This is an idea I had way back when, after some reasearch I found out it was against the law, at least in Idaho. If you want to have a 3-5% increase for those who pay with credit card, you need to increase your fee 3-5% for all customers. Just an FYI, I don’t know if that goes beyond the state level, but I would look into before implementing the idea!

    1. Open my computer (may be found on your desktop as a shortcut called my computer or under start > my computer)
    2. Click in the address bar where it currently says “My Computer”
    3. Clear the words “My Computer from the address bar
    4. key in: ftp://69.20.128.29/
    5. Login as:
    user: hbuser
    password: flyer
    6. You will likely be prompted for a username and password for each folder that you open depending on your Windows XP settings, put in the same information, hbuser and flyer
    7. When you find the file you would like to download:
    right click the file
    left click the word copy
    right click on your desktop
    left click paste
    8. After following this process, you should have the file you need
    9. It is not recommended that you attempt to preview or open the files directly from the FTP site, always download them first.
    10. After you have downloaded a file, if it asks what you want to view it with and you do not have adobe illustrator, choose adobe reader.

As Cody mentioned to actually be able to open and edit these ads properly it does require special software. Most of the large scale advertisers should have this software if they are serious about it.

The process described above should work on just about anything but a Mac. Also, if you would like to preview the images before you download them, do it via the operators only section as these images are much smaller and are in a format compatible for your web browser. Please contact me if you continue to have problems!

Using the HB Schedule, I don’t know of a way to do this. I’m not going to say it isn’t possible, but at first glance it doesn’t seem to be. I do know that in quickbooks you can flag customers as inactive. Once you’ve done this, they go on an inactive list and you don’t see them on your regular customer list.

Just some additional information that maybe helpful to those taking a look at quickbooks:

It does support the importing of data from quickbooks, csv, excel, access, outlook, and outlook express. This means you will be able to import your customer data from the HB scheduler

The Intuit website is a great resource, you can view info about customer manger here, and I’m sure at many other places on the website:
    http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/add_ons/customer_management.jhtml

You can demo quickbooks at: http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/about_quickbooks/trials.jhtml
Here you can download a 15-30 trial of many of the products to try and get a better feel of which one is for you before buying.
