    What Gordon said.

I put together a letter that I sent to apartment complexes that has so far gotten a good response, let me know if you would like a copy.

Service magic got me about 20 jobs last year. Not a ton, but it’s a very cheap source of advertising.

I use WT pads on every job so hopefully we can get back to using the good ones.

No offense to the original poster, but I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read this. Kudos to you, Brian, you have a great sense of humor.

No offense, but that ticks me off when people make sells calls to me. That’s me though. If it cost nothing but air, then wouldn’t hurt to try. I think it would make more people angry than interested. Give it a shot. Try direct mailers. You can buy mailing list for a reasonable price. If you want to target high end, then go to your local city or county office and ask for demographics on population by income level, or something to that nature.

I ticks me off too, in most cases. If it’s a local service company it doesn’t bother me at all. I had a handyman call me last year to see if I needed anything fixed on my house. I had him come out and patch some stucco for me, and I felt good about giving the little guy some business. I am planning on calling as many churches as I can tomorrow.

Many of our customers do not care for the raking lines and opt for post-vacuuming instead. We must post-vacuum anyway due to the stuff that the buffing raises or leaves behind…and raking will not handle at all.

I have the same issue. Sometimes if I do rake it brings more stuff up and I have to re-vacuum anyways.

I wasn’t aware there was a script. I have been making my own based on conversations with other operators.

    You crack me up, Ron.

I tend to do the same thing, as the smell makes me want to vomit.

Nev, you did do your best. I recently had a similar experience with a customer who told me, after I completed the job, “if I knew it was going to look like this I would have bought new carpet.” To say I was very upset would be an understatement, as I had also exhausted every avenue. Some people are just jerks, and I make a note to not do jobs for those people should they ever call back.

You really hit the nail on the head with that post, Ron. I have spent a lot of time the last few weeks reading third party evaluations about different methods and what they all have to offer. I have also lost jobs because either people can’t grasp the concept of cleaning without extracting, or I can’t grasp the concept of explaining it- Or worse, I’m trying to sell something I can’t really explain, because I have my own doubts sometimes. I talked to my state owner about this, and I spent time on these boards. It would help a lot if I knew more about HWE. Ron, I think you made some great points, and greatly appreciate feedback from everyone else on this.

As a side note, I talked a mold inspection company about HWE and I was told it can cause growth under the carpet. I didn’t tell them I was a carpet cleaner, but I do wonder if they just wanted to sell me a $600 inspection.
