This is a great thread. I have a presentation coming up on the 27th of Feb and I’m looking for some ideas too.

I can’t get my woven turfs to fit in the napper. Did you have to modify anything?

Greg, I had the same issue with method of cleaning. When I brought it up with SM they told me it was my responsibility to sell potential leads on why they should go with my system. Obviously if this was the case there wouldn’t be an option to pick a system. This is another example of poor service, which led to me quitting them.

I started off using the cart but switched to just carrying the sprayer. I found the cart slowed me down on the job, and it’s just one more piece of equipment to take on and off the van.

I quit them last week. Their customer service has gotten very poor, and the leads have gradually been getting bad for the last 6 months or so.

I agree with Brian. My price is printed on my cards so people know what I charge. The only discount I give is 20% off for vacancies. It also motivates people to not procrastinate calling when they start to move stuff in.

Just spray down the carpet and leave your buffer on the truck.

I find the whole encap thing very interesting. If this is the case, this allows us to further educate our customers on the difference between us and the soakers.

    Exactly!

When I originally posted my question I was hoping 101 did encap. Not only is does it clean and deodorize, it also encapsulates- Even better. That’s why the carpets stay clean for so long.

    Mike-

You seem to be under the impression that I was trying to place 101 in some negative light. That was absolutely not the case, I was trying to see if an added benefit existed in the solution. If I didn’t have faith in our products I wouldn’t be part of Heaven’s Best. That said, I’m not afraid to ask questions, or maybe even ruffle some feathers in the process. I only want what’s best for me, my customers, and my fellow operators.

I like the positive rapport all Heaven’s Best operators tend to share with each other, and you are no exception. If you ever feel my input can benefit your franchise, don’t hesitate to call me. I harbor no ill feelings towards you, and I hope you feel the same.

    Ok, Mike.

I find your whole post to be overly defensive and somewhat ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing wrong with 101 being an encapsulation cleaner. In my opinion it IS an encap solution, and it makes me think even more highly about the effectiveness of our process. I have had a handful of customers ask me if they should have their carpet hot water extracted after a couple of Heaven’s Best cleanings to remove the residue. What am I supposed to tell them? Call 1-800-STEEMER? I have also had potential customers ask me the same question.

I had a question about our solution, not a comment or complaint, so you can do the math on that one. I also felt that having my question answered publicly may benefit other operators who have run into the same situations I have. I didn’t get my question answered so I did an experiment and came to my own conclusion. The residue in my vacuum was not dirt, I know the difference.

For one reason or another Cody has chosen not to be a part of this discussion. So be it, I came to my own conclusions. I applaud Gordon, as a state owner, for participating.

There is no doubt in my mind that 101 is an encapsulation product, and there is also no doubt in my mind it is the best encap product money can buy.

Pardon my thirst for knowledge, Mike, but this whole discussion stemmed from something my customers have asked me.

    Matthew,

It is my understanding that Cody prefers this board to be used for operators to communicate, and any questions for him should be directed to the home office. I would be nice if he would chime in on this though.

I know exactly what you mean about the feeling like you didn’t do a good job. The fact is we do leave dirt behind, but the dirt is removed during vacuuming via the encap qualities of the 101. Clean out your conquest really good, then clean a small area, then come back the next day and vacuum that same area with your conquest. You will see the dirty powder in the dirt cup.

I did a little experiment and it does appear to encapsulate. I cleaned an empty room in my house that had pretty dirty carpet. Prevac, 101, buff, finishing towel. The finishing towel came out VERY dirty. I went over it 3 more times with finishing towels and they all came out just as dirty. I called it a day at this point and let it dry. The next day I pre vacuumed, 101, finishing towel. The towel was a little gray but not nearly as dirty. The dried 101 from the day before trapped the dirt, and the vacuum picked a lot of it up. I would predict after more routine vacuumings the carpet would gradually get cleaner, and stay cleaner longer. I believe this is the reason our products are so much better than a lot of HWE products that cause resoiling, and can’t really do what 101 does because of all of the water. Also if you spray a little 101 on a hard surface and let it dry, the residue will come away from the surface very easily by flaking off and becoming almost a powder like substance. Any dirt from the surface will be in the powder.

If anyone is really interested in how our products work, I think this provides some good insight.

I do this a lot different than you guys. We do bring them in to clean them. We just use the upholstery mate and whatever products needed to remove the stains. We charge accordinly. If the customer caught you at the “spray and wash” don’t you think they might get a little pissed.

    Mike

If the customer caught you making room in your garage to clean their rug they may respond the same way. You gotta do what you gotta do to deliver the best results, which is what they are paying you for. I personally find cleaning area rugs with the U-Mate to be very ineffective and labor intensive, so I don’t do it. Until I have have a wash pit or immersion tank I will no longer be doing off site cleaning of rugs because I want to be able to deliver the best cleaning possible. If someone wants me to bonnet a rug in their home I will be happy to do so, and I will charge accordingly for a maintenance cleaning. I like Mike’s idea of building a relationship with a company that specializes in cleaning area rugs. It’s a great way to deliver the best results without telling the customer the dreaded, “I can’t do that.” Until proper equipment can be purchased it’s probably the best option.

This letter landed me one small complex and one larger one. You HAVE to follow up with a phone call within a couple of days of sending the letter.

To be honest though, I like Greg Millers lease renewal program better. I believe the details of his program are posted in the advertising forum.
