ParticipantGordon,
Nothing against Oregon, One of the three states I have not been to…yet, but why don’t more people live there? It is over twice the size of Pennsylvania and has a quarter of the population.
One would think that with no taxes that it would be a haven for retirees and businesses that would bring in more people. It may be a well kept secret, but why aren’t there more living and going there?
We are all family here…

ParticipantDo all SARs do the installations outside? Or just in PA? How in the world anyone expects a quality job with wind, dust and one man doing the installation is beyond me. How they got my sons van almost perfect is proof that it can be done..maybe calm day.
I might consider going to my other instaler and paying her to fix bubbles if SAR cannot. I have to pay, but it would be done right. She is a perfectionist and has a garage. Not $1200 anymore.

ParticipantJeff,
My understanding was that it is the law in all states that have a sales tax, that they have a use tax as well.
Before you go jumping the border to the north, visit there sometime and just you buy a few things, like a meal. As foreigners there we get the taxes paid back at the border..we are lucky.
I would love the 100 acres though

ParticipantGary,
Read Ron’s statement…the guy was not too smart for giving it up…lack of brains…

ParticipantMaybe $1200 is not a lot of money in Canada…but it is in Lancaster County, PA…to us..and times 2 vans messed up is now $2400. And I have looked at other vans and autos and by golly…they do not have the massive air bubbles that we have running down the van indentations…or the 1/2 ” gap up front on my van…just waiting to tear or rip…And then who pays for that? MOI?
I have experienced 3 call backs in three years, 2 in the last month from my son’s jobs.
Poor workmanship is not acceptable. And unfortunatley, across the country it is the same story.
I am lately told by Tom in Florida that they are replacing the Dry in 1 Hour vinyl that was off color (orange) and fix my bubbles…we shall see. the weather has to cooperate since this is all done outside.

ParticipantMike,
Freedom is not free…
Appears that I got a lot of operators thinking…

ParticipantMike,
As I said earlier, why not label the bottles, even if they are in your possession on the jobsite..makes good sense, tht’s all. If one has any number of bottles on any jobsite, unlabelled, it is very easy to get them confused, that’s all. And that is an OSHA requirement. Also, when they are emptied of their contents, having known what was inside will make it easier to cleanup due to possible reactions.
I merely stated what I thought was the obvious, sorry if you took it the wrong way. No negative thoughts were expressed or intended, only providing, what I thought, was helpful advice.

ParticipantHaving been an OSHA inspector many moons ago, I just have to ask the question…why not label the jugs? and why not have an MSDS? I am not so sure of the household chemicals like WD-40…I never heard of anyone writing a citation for something like that.
But why not label, so the user knows what is inside?

ParticipantRick,
Sorry to hear of your experience. I think that mostly, people and companies ignore this issue, until they get caught. Any out of state internet purchase also has tax due in any state that collects sales tax.
My wife is the controller with her company and they were audided for sales tax and use tax audit was rolled into it. In her audits, the auditors looked at only the current year and did not go back into history on either audit.
In PA they are looking for 6% of money spent out of state and the product used in state… a great example is the equipment or the van giveaway…
If paid as it should be, it is not a lot of money per se, but if you have not paid at all…oops, in PA they have penalties. Paying something but not all of the taax due would be perceived as a better thing than not paying at all. And inPA, ingorance is no excuse…thelaw has been on the books since 1953.
If Cody mentioned anything like this in our class Rick (and we were in the same class) I do not remember at all…lots was said..
Seems prudent for all to look at their individual situation and consider the consequences. I started this thread as a kind of service to all as I felt that there are many of us in the same boat.
For the record, we will calculate our tax for this year, pay it and then keep current into the future…I will personally be dipped before I will have some slimy auditor tell me that I owe them money at the end of the year.

ParticipantI believe that if we purchase retail items like rakes, spotter and the like and clothing (PA) no use tax is colected since it will be collected when sold. There is no sales tax in PA on clothing.
Too bad about Oregon….

ParticipantDennis,
Thanks for the info…really nice job. I have a rather dum question though..when you are quoting dollars in your review, I presume Canadian dollars? Am I correct or did you convert?
Can make a big difference here.
Thanks,

ParticipantCraigslist.com comes to mind…I think it might be worthwhile and free as well.
