Same thing happened to me. The old password and sign in would not work since the updated web site went live.
jdmartin401ParticipantI agree with Ammon and Gordon. I have done this a few times and have always used my normal process to clean. Dave Dilts, I must have mis-remembered Cody’s warning. I’m glad I have gone to these opportunities. You compete against these cleaners every day. Just not face to face. So why not see how you compare first hand? I consider this one of the best things that happened to me since I started the business. The confidence I gained in both my abilities and the HB system after seeing different competitors systems first hand helped me feel a lot better about my place in this profession!
I’m sure Matt will do what he thinks is best for his business. Good luck Matt!
jdmartin401ParticipantThanks Matt!
jdmartin401ParticipantDave,
Thanks for the information!
jdmartin401ParticipantHey Matt,
Sounds like a great opportunity. We have been asked to do this previously on commercial accounts. In fact the first commercial job I ever went to was a “clean off”. Had been in business 3 months. I made sure every thing absolutley shined before I went. Not so hard as it was all new, but you get the point. Me, the van, equipment, pad, towels, invoice book, etc. Introduced myself to everyone, including the competition. Gave them all a business card. One of the competitors looked like I had just handed him a sack of, well you get it. I knew I had him on the run. We had to give a presentation about our companies in front of our competitors as well as clean next to them. I focused on what we could do and not what the others could not. Some of the others spent more time talking down the competition than explaining why they were worthy of the job. Some of the customers have required fiber ID as part of the process. Last one I did had 3 fiber types. 2 of 4 cleaners got all 3 correct. High buck condo’s with all sort’s of inlays. Practice how you think this might go, before you go. Be prepared, Boy Scout. Focus on the things that have made your business the success it is today. Honest, quality service at a fair price. This is a great learning experience! Good luck. RWM
jdmartin401ParticipantDave,
Thanks for sharing the tip on bringing the carpet back to a neutral pH. Can you share how you mix your acid rinse? How do you know how much OD to add to the water? pH meter? I have been trying to pick up as much as I can on this topic and fiber ID. The local classes are taught by one of my competitors. I don’t want him telling my customers he trained me! The next closest classes have been 300-500 miles away so any information you, or any other operator can share would be greatly appreciated.Rick McConnell

Try the cleanfax web site. Go to industry topics and do a search on PH. Lots of information on how the PH of a product affects cleaning.

jdmartin401ParticipantI have two compressors. One cheap-o unit that runs off of the van. The other is battery powered (emergency car unit) that I bring in if the job requires filling the sprayer multiple times.
Rick
jdmartin401ParticipantDave, I have done them a couple of times. We also did the flipper doors and chairs. I charged $40/hour, two years ago. The panels cleaned fairly easily. The customer preped the work stations so I had a clear shot at the panels. Desks where cleared off. All furniture etc. moved away from the cube panels.
Looks like I should have talked to Gordon first!
Rick
jdmartin401ParticipantJamie,
Thanks for the reply. I think that was a great idea. What a wonderful marketing tool!

The site looks great! You did a great job putting it together. I would like to know more about the reference to the solution being doctor and veteranarian recommened. Did that come from HB corp?jdmartin401ParticipantThanks for the information gentlemen!
Rick
jdmartin401ParticipantI’m sorry I didn’t see this earlier! I have the same respect for upholstery as the rest of you. I came across some information on fiber ID on http://www.cleanfax.com that has been helpful for both upholstery and carpet. Look under Industry Topics or CleanPros. I started doing the “burn test” as they recommend. Charts are available that show you how to do this. It’s not 100%, but certainly helps confirm what you are working on. I just started this the beginning of the year. So if any of you have been doing this for a while and have any tips you would like to share, that would be great! Be careful where you get your samples from. Customer may not understand why your are doing this!
Rick
jdmartin401ParticipantThanks Don,
It was great to see you too!
I was wondering. If the bristles are 2 inches long, is the drive plate big enough to use a BBC pad with it? I cleaned one yesterday that I could have used that combo. The carpet was so dirty I had to wash my shoes when I got home.
Thanks again for sharing the info. on the dirt nappers.
Rick
jdmartin401ParticipantDon,
Any suggestions on which you prefer for berber? I currently have the plastic dirt napper (brown) and while it works great on pile, I’m not so happy with it on berebr. I have worn my old nappers (grey plasitc) down so far they hardly hit the carpet.
