It was very dirty carpet of course and it happened be in a building that the company was actually donating. It wasn’t anything that I had cleaned before. The company that I believe they choose cleaned a different piece of carpet the total sq ft was probably about 400. I spent at least an hour on it.
The other have of the room the 3rd carpet cleaning company had already cleaned it. I had to smile when I walk in there because there was streaks. She thought about giving me a different piece of carpet after the fact. I think she wanted to do this to be fair. She is a really fair person and wanted to give everyone the same opportunity. I didn’t want to clean 13 buildings with steam. That is a good idea so say that you will extract when necessary because we do all the time on pet spots. A lot was learned and hopefully this post helps other operators not to make the same mistakes I did. I am to know that that I got 2nd and not 3rd which the 3rd was a steamer.HBPuyallupParticipantThat is what I have thought. I have had people ask about that and I didn’t really say much because I was assuming and didn’t know for sure. This is why I like the bulletin board to share ideas and to educate each other on things we have learned.
HBPuyallupParticipantThanks to all for the support. I was down for a little while but now I feel great and have more of a determination that before to get out there and clean. I do plan on writing that letter and stopping in every once and a while. I will get it eventually.

HBPuyallupParticipantWe are. We don’t advertise coupons at all, but we did decide to send some coupons only to our customers and not strangers. It only went out to customers that we haven’t cleaned for in 6 months. I just finished sending them all out 2 days ago. We have got one call at least.
HBPuyallupParticipantAfter 3 months of trying to get this account and the whole clean off. I called them today and they said they were going to go with someone else. She told me why and I wanted to ask. She went on to say that some of the other people in the company were concern about not us using steam. The question is this would I have gotten it if I was a steam cleaner. In the 3 months I learned a lot. One should of skipped right over the person that I was dealing with. I thought that I was dealing with the decision maker. She only handles the stuff under 10K. Next time I will talk to the person decision maker. That way I can resolve all concerns about our process and tell them the benefits. That way they are being educated by the real source and not through the grape vine. I am not blaming the loss of this contract on that we don’t do HWE. Our process works there is not doubt. I blame myself for not being educated enough to make the sale or be a better salesperson and get the right person. I am their #2 and will be here and then I will wait patiently to be their #1.
HBPuyallupParticipantI don’t like restaurants either. Having said that I haven’t had anyone pay me $.40 for one either. If they are willing to pay that amount I MIGHT be willing to clean it. They can be a big hassle, but I would rather have my van out making money than sitting at home and not making money. Yes there other place, but Fort Collins, CO has a lot of restaurants per capita. If they don’t want to pay I don’t want to clean. It is worth looking into.
HBPuyallupParticipantI do believe that most people now what normal where and tear are. We work our business a lot like Dave does. I will ask them about their concern spots. I also will tell them the ones that usually give a little trouble, or you can re-word that, are the ones that leave a color behind because we are usually dealing with dyes. 98% of the customers understand.
If you include it like Laura does you will need to charge more per room of per sq.ft. If you include that in your price it might be a selling point and you may be able to say that our competitors charge extra for that.HBPuyallupParticipantThe reason that I haven’t replied is because they haven’t look at it yet. I maybe subconsioulsy left my jacket there. I went to go and pick it up later and brought my 3 year old daughter. The lady Heather got a big smile on her face and started to ask her the usual questions “What’s your name? How old are you?” Those questions. She may of cinched the deal for me. If she did I will have to buy her a car when she’s 16.
I will post something when I find out whether I get it or not. But I am going to get it.

HBPuyallupParticipantSound very interesting I would like to see if these kind of results continue. Don’t know about trying to get other people to do it, but I like little amount of money involved. I if you scheduled 10 job and you jobs are averaging $100 a piece that’s huge. Keep us informed on the results.
HBPuyallupParticipantNail polish we can get out but takes a very long time and I haven’t found anyone who wanted to pay for it when it has been a big spill. Minor ones all of the previous suggestions work.
HBPuyallupParticipantI was wondering what was the solution or what fixed the problem. I know that red dye was used. I want to be able to fix the problem if it happens to me.
HBPuyallupParticipantDave, thanks for the info. This is where my thinking is taking me I use a company call send out cards I can send out a post card for under 50 cents. It yes will have three different coupons on them. Like clean 3 rooms get the 4th free will a sq.ft. maximum of 250. But more so it is a cheap way to stay in contact with them. I have on the top of the card customer appreciation time our way of saying thanks. It is something a little different that I want to try. I will show you it when I see you this Saturday. I am trying to think out of the box a little but I still may be in the box with this one. We will see. Yes it is 6 time more expensive to get a new customer so I have heard.
