Dan ChildParticipant
I am very encouraged to hear everyone’s story. This is my second month and I have been doing this part time, but I feel I’ve been working a solid 8.5 🙂 I am looking forward to moving to full time in the next couple of months. LITTLE INTIMIDATED TO DO THIS TOO SOON… ANY WORDS OF WISDOM ON THIS, THAT IS TIMING FOR FULL TIME. I AM VERY CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT YOU ALL HAVE TO SAY?
I have joined two chambers and sent letters to all of the members of each. I will be joining the local BNI soon, and I am about to begin working with the realtors.
I’ve done very well in the business sector, but I am still working hard to break into the residential. We have lots of solicitation laws that prohibit me from going door to door… it sucks, but I understand.
Any suggestions to help the new guy break into the business more successfully?

Dan ChildParticipantI began carpet cleaning in September, and I wish I had done this 10 years ago :). The metro-Atlanta area is great, and I am sure we will do well.
My education includes a doctorate in educational leadership, a master of divinity and a bachelor in business administration. All of my educational experiences and professional experiences have truly helped me become a better business person. This is definitely a great platform for me and my family to create the future we so deeply desire.
I am proud to be a floor care specialist aka carpet cleaner 🙂 😀
Thanks guys for your leadership and commitment to making this company great. It makes it easier for the new guys.

Southern Crescent of Metro AtlantaDan ChildParticipantSorry–it’s just me again. I didn’t address any of your comments Gordon. I too have a great deal of respect for Cody and love my association with Heaven’s Best, as I’m sure we all do. I’m sure there are lots of learning curves when you’re planning your first International Convention and appreciate the tremendous amount of work it takes to pull one off successfully. I just hope this registration fee glitch doesn’t hurt attendance.
Lorraine
Dan ChildParticipantI know it’s not uncommon for big companies to charge registration fees for conventions but you usually know about them in the first stages of planning. I too, am concerned about the $120.00 fee per person. Two operators that I’ve heard from who were going to bring their wives are not going to bring them now because of having to pay the registration fee for their wives too. That’s just two I’ve heard from today, there may be more. (Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems to me that when we talked about the Convention in Dallas it was decided to have it for two days so it could be considered a family vacation.) $120.00 may not sound like a lot to some, but to others it is. I feel badly for those wives who were planning to come and are not able to now, but I can’t afford to pay their registration fees either. The incentives we’re offering, which our operators are taking advantage of, add up to more than the registration fee. If I had know about the registration fee in advance, I may have opted to pay the registration fee for each operator and not given incentives.
Have a great weekend everyone!
LorraineDan ChildParticipantWelcome aboard Kevin. This is a great business and you’ve got a super guy to work with. Hope you’re planning to go to Convention in Vegas–we’ve got some very successful operators that would be happy to share ideas with you while you’re there.
Good Luck!
LorraineDan ChildParticipantThanks Kathlynn! Great story!
Lorraine FergusonDan ChildParticipantI enjoyed your story. Thanks for sharing!
Lorraine FergusonDan ChildParticipantThanks for your input Ammon, that’s what I did and it was very enlightening. Hope you’re enjoying your new home!
LorraineDan ChildParticipantHey Dennis,
Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply. I do remember your brother. It’s nice to hear you have a partner in crime. I’m sure you’ll make a great team. Congrats on your new owners. I haven’t had a single lead on any ad I’ve run or from any of the packets I’ve sent out so far this year. But I’ll keep pluggin’ away at it. Sure would like to get two more areas open by the end of the year. Know anybody who wants to move to Arizona?
Lorraine
Dan ChildParticipantThat’s great advice for all of us. Thanks!
LorraineDan ChildParticipantI’m assuming you’re talking about the van decal banter on the BB recently. I think there is a difference between frustration and negativity and I think Ron Hollingsworth was more frustrated than negative. This was his third attempt to have the decals put on satisfactorily. We have found him to be very positive, progressive and forward-thinking. He loves this business. He received our Summit Award last year because he is always looking “outside the box” for ways to improve his business and he’s a team player. He was our first operator to order the van decals and implement the other changes. Ron has had a mountain of financial setbacks this year, unrelated to his business, that have caused him great conern and this decal thing may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’m not defending him for the cheap shot he took and Cody or State Owners–uncalled for, no matter how frustrated you are, as far as I’m concerned! However, I truly don’t think he knew that there were any state owners who were operators, since his state owner isn’t an operator. I did detect some resentment in his comments toward state owners that I didn’t know existed. Since I’m the only state owner he deals with, his comments made me take a hard look at what I can do to better assist him and our other operator, so for that I’m grateful.
I appreciate everyone’s comments on the BB. It’s nice to learn from each other.
Lorraine
Dan ChildParticipantMy reservations are made and I’m looking forward to the information that will be shared and seeing all of you again too!
Lorraine
Dan ChildParticipantMy state is Arizona. I had someone ask me the other day how many operators there are in the company and felt stupid when I had to call Holly to find out. So it might also be helpful if each state owner would say how many operators they have in their organization when they list their state. I have six.
Lorraine
Dan ChildParticipantHey Ron – Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to seeing you and your wife in Vegas!
I have a couple of questions for all you guys and gals–How much time did you tell Cody you wanted to spend with your operators during Convention and what are you going to do with them during that time?
I only requested 1/2 hr. because we usually go to Arizona in the Fall of every year and have an informal dinner meeting and share ideas with everyone.
Would appreciate any ideas you have.
Have a great day!
LorraineDan ChildParticipantLoren, those are some excellent pieces of advice. I wouldn’t recommend backing up to your original hard drive though, b/c if that goes down, your backup goes down as well! 😯
Here’s what I do. I have yet to be able to afford a battery backup, so I just back all my files up on to my back up drive, which is a seperate hard drive. 🙂
