Dan ChildParticipant
Ok, everything SHOULD be in order now. Let me know!

Dan ChildParticipantAmmon, I’m working on getting all the permissions in order, they’re a little wacky right now. Check back and let me know once you are able to see it again.

Dan ChildParticipantI just wanted to chime in. I am looking into the possibility of making a template based (read: consistent) website that could be deployed and customized for individual operators. There would be a reasonable setup fee and the cost of hosting, which can be found for a reasonable price as well. For now “reasonable” is as specific as I know.
This is all definitely in the investigation stage but is something I am looking into. I started a thread about this a week or two ago in the advertising section. Manpower is definitely a large concern as well as being able to offer support through the corporate office. What happens when somebody has a problem with the site? Or wants to update it? There are lots of solutions out there,
I agree that there are things to be done that would make the main site more Search Engine Friendly. I also feel there is a need to maintain a consistent look across the board with individual HB websites.

Graphic DesignerDan ChildParticipantI’d be interested in seeing the referral card as well. This could be something I can make available on heavensbestads.com. Sounds like a great idea.

Dan ChildParticipantSince most customers are home owners, I am going to begin to offer a $10 gift card to Lowe’s (not home depot) for every referral, Hey Brian, have you got the form made up for your referral cards? I’d like a template to start out with. Thanks.
Dan ChildParticipantThe problem with .psd’s it that these files are designed in Illlustrator. They can be exported as a .psd, but then you lose the ability to edit the text anyway. At that point you may as well be using .pdf’s.
If you have a specific file or three you need in .psd drop me an email and I can convert it for you.
It is something we could look into for all the files, but is much more time consuming up front as all the type would need to be re-entered in Photoshop so that it could be editable later on. File size is also a problem with .psd’s. For example I just tested a file that is 22MB in Illustrator (which is WAY too big for my liking). After exporting it as a .psd it was 66MB.
Dan ChildParticipantThat’s a great point. We are still very much in the early stage of this and it is a little too early to discuss price. Maybe is a fair answer:)
The mileage is what ALWAYS gets you.
Dan ChildParticipantwow! Most of the web designers here are charging thousands for sites that don’t look near that great.
Dan ChildParticipantI don’t have a personal website but should probably put one together. It would probably help an ad like citysearch. I have met several graphic designers who build websites but it’s outrageous how much it is for a good one. Are the websites we can get through corporate any good? Anyone have one they can post a link for???
Dan ChildParticipantyeah I was told that the minimum was $200. I figure that $350 is going to be hard to max out, like I said before that means 1100 clicks. If I don’t make money on 1100 clicks then something is wrong and I won’t continue. Figured it was worth a shot and I would go after it. Funny how anyone getting paid on commission can always get their boss to “reconsider” and “make exceptions” huh?
Dan ChildParticipantmy favorite is…
“We don’t cut corners, we clean them!”
Dan ChildParticipantThose who ran TV ads in the past or are currently running them, did you run them broadcast over the major networks or on cable stations? What works the best in your opinion, considering the difference cost of course?
Dan ChildParticipantI am not a fan of Yellow Pages in my area…I went with Bellsouth (New AT&T), they messed up my ad to begin with, and it never produced what it cost. Didn’t sign up again this year. Maybe a smaller book is the way to go.
Dan ChildParticipantIn every area there will be customers that you just can’t please unless you work for free. I think a good thing to do is to have a price list laminated in your van. Although you don’t have to use it and show customers, you can always break it out to show the questionable customer that those are your normal rates and you quote everyone the same thing. They will be more likely to understand that they made the mistake, not you. I haven’t come across a customer as bad as yours, but I am going to make a price sheet now in case I come across one in the future.
Dan ChildParticipantWe also have some possibilities for radio commercials. Though we’re still in the developmental stages for these as well. Eventually we’ll try to offer these online. But if you’d like something on the radio drop me a line, grover@heavensbest.com , I’ll see what we can do.
