I have had this happen a few times. Clean the home and all is good. Get a call hour(s) later from customer frantic that there are bubbles/buckling all over carpet now. By the next day, all bubbles/buckles are gone. What gives? Now, I know that if carpet is already buckling, or even just a little loose, then it sometimes will be much more pronounced after cleaning. I understand that and can tell a customer that before I clean. The ones I don’t understand are when the carpet looks great, and then a couple hours later it is buckling all over, yet when I go back the next day to look at it it is completely fine. I have yet to find a correlation as to why this happens when it does (we cleaned and got carpet too wet, carpet was not wet enough and too much friction, type/style of carpet, age of carpet, etc.). Anyone able to shed light on this for me? If a customer calls, I usually tell them that this sometimes happpens, and if the buckles haven’t dissappeared in a day or two, to call me and we’ll come back out. Problem always (knock on wood) seems to fix itself.
January 14, 2010 at 3:52 pm #154144AnonymousInactiveThe first time I saw this I called Cody and he said that for a while they used a clay backing. When it got damp the clay would expand and then as it dried back out it would shrink down again. Glad i am not a soak and suck guy!!

This problem is usually caused because of a clay mixture in the backing material. The carpet will grow with very little moisture, but it will dry back out and lay down usually within a 24 hour period. These look real wild. I have had some that have grown to a 3 inch high ripple, but they always lay back down with time. The wetter you get the carpet the longer it will take to lay down properly.January 15, 2010 at 2:58 pm #154146AnonymousInactiveStrange, but makes sense. Thanks for the info.
January 26, 2010 at 11:01 pm #154147AnonymousInactiveI have cleaned a bank with wool carpet and talk about buckleing!!!! Looks like a washboard road or rumble strips on the highway. Lays back down every time. Scared the heck out of me first time it happened.
February 27, 2011 at 4:21 pm #154148AnonymousInactiveThis just happened to me. I was going to post and ask for some help, but found the information. Thanks for the help bulletin board… If it happens again at least I will be able to put the customer at ease.

April 5, 2011 at 11:48 pm #154151AnonymousInactiveI’ve had the carpet buckle on me a few times. In my experience, it was because the carpet needed to be stretched. Each time that it buckled, it was back to normal the next morning.
