Spent my early years working for a restuarant chian as a bar tender, finally heard too many bad jokes and went back to school. Received accociates in criminolgy. Spent 5 years working as a family law paralegal, way too much drama… then in the life and health insurance industry for a few more years before reading about H. B. in the business section of the L. A. Times ( an advertisement from our state owner, Dan Child) It hit me in the face so hard it left a mark, though you can hardly tell. Now, I’m finally a carpet cleaner. My wife was not crazy at first, in fact, I wish I’d taken pictures of her expressions when I was telling her about my first conversation with Dan. She is doing just fine now!

I started working for a Chem Dry franchise right out of high school. I did that for about 2 years and then went back to school and got my emergency medical tech degree. After seeing how much my boss made cleaning carpets I soon realized thats what I wanted to do. Me and my wife opened a Chem Dry franchise in north San Diego and ran that for 2 years. We then decided to move back were we both grew up, so we sold are Chem Dry franchise and bought into the Heaven’s Best franchise and have been running it for about 6 years. Everything has been great so far!!
Hope you all are doing well

    Brett,

How funny, I had B&K Chem Dry clean my carpets a few times when I lived in Oceanside.

I worked on Wall Street for 20 years. Right out of High School. Started as a clerk then went on to Options Trader, then became a Stockbroker. Always worked for small firms with no pensions no garauntees. Sept 11th came and that began the process for finding a way out. Between downsizing and merging and electronic trading I knew I was getting squeezed out. Found this business on a christian franchise website. I am the first guy in New Jersey up and running and things are going a little slow. just getting the name familiar with people is a daunting task, but I know I made the right decision to get in now.

    Great info from everyone…

I am from Indiana originally and retired from the Air Force (after 20 years) last year. Worked as a manger for Target for about a year and decided to go into business for myself, so here I am…

In my previous life, I have been a tool designer and a manufacturing engineer. I have a degree in design technology and business management. No more worries about the internal politics and trying to please those in management that cannot be pleased.

i worked in manufacturing for 20 years. after 14 years at one place, and watching it go down the tubes, i was working at another dead end slave shop with to much mandatory overtime and never knowing if or when the next layoff would be, i heard about Heavens Best through an ad in the newspaper. I called and spoke to Dan “the california car salesman” Childs and was on my way. I had just gotten my first year’s vacation, and flew to Rexburg for training. That was 7 years ago, and i couldn’t be happier.

Good idea Dennis. I learned of HB through my mother and sister who live in Sioux City, Iowa. They raved about Randy Baily, what a good job he did, and what a nice business he ran. For quite a while I had no interest. Began thinking about how nicely this works with my family, did the research, and here I am. I’m now 5 yrs. in the business and will do this till I retire.

After being laid off and looking, unsuccessfully, one year for a job that would keep me in my previous manner of living, I ran accross an ad placed in a regional newspaper by Dan Childs. I gave him a call and the rest is history. That was 4 years ago. Is this heaven? Nope, it’s Iowa. Heaven’s Best is my “Field of Dreams”.

I was an asst. manager in a clothing store chain. I was bumped when the owners neffew wanted my job. I asked everyone who bought gas at a gas station if they knew of a job? Thats how I was introduced to the cleaning business. I ran a sewing machine and vacuum store by day, cleaned carpets in the evening and on Saturdays. When I made more from cleaning then selling and repairs. I sold my parnership in the vac buz and went cleaning (Steam). After the Navy(n-a-v-y… never again volenteer yourself) I managed and operated a chem-dry (brand X) (who had heard of my repution from before the navy) for two years. A customer once wrote a check out for Heaven’s Best while I was with brand X, I remembered that and went looking for it, I found it. Life has never ever been this good!

I grew up in a boat shop, working on boat motors.
I joined the Navy as a diesel technician and ended up working on forklifts.
After the Navy I spent the next 8 years working on forklifts.
I woke up one day and said that I would not turn wrenches the rest of my life. I immediately began managing a friends restraunt for the experience.
My introduction to HB came in the guise of the only cleaner that ever showed up on time, and never missed a cleaning without a telephone call, to me at the restraunt.

I’ve been with HB for the last 6 years.
