My washing machine was having an issue with proper water filling and while the repairman was here I asked him to check the internal filter for the wash water. It is located just before the pump and prevents foreign objects going into the pump. He pulled off the panel and unscrewed the cap and with a small gush of water the filter was removed. To my amazement, the machine that is 3 yrs old, had such a clog of hair, lint, staples, paperclips, rust and general crud in the filter, I don’t know how the washer even drained. Mr Repairman informed me he thought the pump sounded funny when he first tested the machine but afterward he felt the pump that sounded normal. I’m not sure of any other make but mine, Whirlpool Duet, but by cleaning the filter, the repairman indicated it saved me the cost of a new pump and labor. The proceedure on this model is easy and I can supply info if needed. Call or email. Maybe I’ll take photos and post if there is enough interest.

    Loren,
Sometimes, even though this may sound funny, I respond to my own posts to help archive the answer for myself later. If that makes sense. That way if I have the same issue and can’t remember what I did to fix it, I can go search and find the posts I did about it and read what I did the first time.

I too have the Duet and flushed my filter about a week or so ago. It’s like it has a new pump! This is an important maintenance item for Duet owners.
