We just had a Val-Pak franchise open here in South Texas–it’s about freakin time. How has val-pak worked for you guys in the past? This guy has offered up 10,000 coupons to targeted areas for $350 and you have to send out at least 20,000 to sign up with them. What do you guys think of this. So, in other words, I would spend $700 for one month of 20,000 coupons. I have one competitor in them, Steamatic. One of our commercial clients is in there also and says they received a great response off of it. The sales rep recommended running it for at least 3 months. Let me know guys, before I blow some cash on this one. Summer is slow for us.

Personally when I was faced with the decision of valpac and another company, I chose the other company. It was a coupon booklet that people were more inclined to hang on to. Since then however, I have changed and am getting out of that book and want to move to a high gloss full color home magazine. Little more expensive, but attracts the client that I am looking for. (I don’t want everyone anymore)

The thing about Val-Pack to watch out for is that they do not limit the number of competitors that may be in a single mailing. If they put three or four different carpet cleaners in there, it just becomes a low-bidders war.
If there is just one competitor in there it may be worth trying. I am sure it has worked for some areas and not for others… You may have to try it to see if your area is receptive to it. The good thing is that it is new in your area, and the folks there may more inclined to check it out once it arrives in their mail.

All offer deals, deals and more deals. It is lower end, in my opinion, and very competitive. It is not where I am positioning us here. Good luck.
July 26, 2007 at 5:41 pm #150311FL18ParticipantI agree guys. Don’t know till you try it of course. But, right now, it’s just the one competitor. I called and did some “spy work” and the manager says they can’t keep up with the calls, but what else would he say to a potential discount of services on his end, for getting me in. You never know but I do appreciate the feedback. Thanks guys.
Hey Dooley,
How are things in Canyon Lake. Your population is primarily hispanic I assume, if near San Antone. Let’s talk sometime. I drive through San An.. from time to time and maybe we could do lunch, talk business.

He isn’t big on the message board and probably hasn’t seen this but he has been using Val Pak with lousy results. I don’t think it has returned his investment yet. I don’t like those coupon companies because you are investing a lot for mostly low end price shoppers with less than average sized homes, but that is just my area, can’t speak for yours.
July 27, 2007 at 3:50 am #150313hern7146ParticipantThats too high talk them down. I have paid $720.00 for 20k and now im on a plan that gives me 40k for $996.00. I tried 20k 2 times with not a good result basicly just enough sales to pay the cost but I just dropped 40k this week and have good success so far and still getting calls every day. I have booked 8 jobs for about $1100.00 in sales this week so far. I told my rep if I didn’t get some results this would be the last time so they worked hard on my ad to make sure it was looking good and would be effective.
July 27, 2007 at 6:35 am #150314FL18ParticipantThanks guys. I appreciate the info. Let me know how well Franchise Xpress works for you all. Hope to get more responses on FX and V-pak.

July 27, 2007 at 5:52 pm #150315pachecoParticipantWe began our business in July and used Val Pak for 4 months until we got the YB/YP out into the world….barely got our money back but kept the customers we got…never, ever would we ever use again. Money better spent in local Penny Savers or rag that goes to all homes in a Zip Code.
That being said, if they just came into my area and I had the opportunity to use them for a couple of months, I might give it a try. To the population, it will be a novelty, until they realize that it is used mainly for pizzas and other goodies…
Most folks here just pitch the blue envelope…I do as well, after I peruse it for the competitors to see how low they are going….
Just our 2 cents worth…

Your two cents is worth millions. I appreciate the response.

September 6, 2007 at 11:00 pm #150318HBplantcityflaParticipantAMEN to that AMMON!
