After vacuuming over 2 million square feet of carpet, I noticed my vacuum seemed to be losing it’s vigor. I decided to spend a couple of hours to perk it up. On a quarterly bases, I replace the belts a brush. Although this is very important, it is not always enough. The vacuum part that creates the vacuum is the fan (or blower). As we vacuum, we sometimes pull small stones, sand, nails, screws, coins, paperclips, ear rings, nose rings, small toys and minivans into our machines. These heavy objects may get pulled into the plastic blower, causing nicks on the fins of the blower. These nicks and scratches will drastically reduce the effeciency of your vacuum. After completing this over-haul, I was very impressed with my vacuums’ performance. A top performing vacuum will save cleaning time and produce better results. If you lack the ability to perform this over-haul, take your vacuum to a service center. It will be money well spent.

Ditto… It’s like taking the time to sharpen the saw blade. It saves time and effort! Thanks Brian for the reminder.

I’m renewing this post because it happened to me again. I can’t believe how much difference a new blower fan makes!

This weekend I rebuilt one of my vacuums. It sounded like the motor was going out. It had been laying to the side in the shop for over a year. I replaced the fan, top, decals, rubber, and brush. It now works and sounds like it did the first day I got it. I am now going to refurbish all of the vacuums I have.
