Nothing against Oregon, One of the three states I have not been to…yet, but why don’t more people live there? It is over twice the size of Pennsylvania and has a quarter of the population.
One would think that with no taxes that it would be a haven for retirees and businesses that would bring in more people. It may be a well kept secret, but why aren’t there more living and going there?

I thought I would get a lot of rif for this…
First, More population isn’t always better.
Second, Here in northeastern Oregon my community is surrounded by national forest. Hunting, fishing, camping, places to park.
Third, God just lives down the street, and He said I couldn’t tell anymore. It’s a secret. He said if I told any more I might get sales tax.

8.25%! I thought Minnesnowta was bad at 6.5%. I have 3 territories in MN and each of them charges a different rate sales and use tax (from 6.5% to 7.5%.) So I have to keep track of each territory seperately.
To answer your question about how the state knows what you purchase and what use tax applies. In MN they publish a list of all the items they consider taxable by business type. Fortunately, not all of the HB products are subject to use tax, all of the equipment is (in MN.) They do leave it up to the biz owner to declare what has been purchased and I report that amount quarterly. And I keep a log of purchases also. I guess it would be up to each individual how closely they adhere to this. I report every thing. And sleep very well at night!
