We’re in, but not settled yet. Too much going on here . . . graduation, wedding, state track and a little business. Fishing next week with Sutton, the boxes will have to wait a bit.
November 26, 2007 at 3:05 pm #149387Dan ChildParticipantThose who ran TV ads in the past or are currently running them, did you run them broadcast over the major networks or on cable stations? What works the best in your opinion, considering the difference cost of course?
November 26, 2007 at 6:46 pm #149388AnonymousInactiveWe started running our TV ads on the major network. The cost was $30-$35 each time during the morning and noon local news. It’s even more expensive at other times of day. We did this for a few months and did book jobs because of the ads. Last month we decided to contact our cable network, Mediacom. We’re able to run many more ads for the same price. We ran 99 spots last month for $300. The time slots were random throughout the day and evening 7 days/week. It’s more costly if you designate specific times. We’ve been pleased with the results. We like the increased frequency and we also reach customers at different times of day. It only takes 2 jobs to pay for the advertising and it’s keeping the Heaven’s Best name visible! We have thought about also running the noon ads on the major network to reach the senior citizens during lunch, but as for now we’re just doing the cable stations.

Want to know if they are still working for some of you, if you run them. Ferris, let me know. I hope all is well. We are ready to take it to the next step. The seminar has motivated Trisha and I more than ever. God Bless.

We feel that the commercials have been very good for us. We run around 100 thirty second commercials per month and thinking about doing more. We do some other advertising as well, so I think the combination of advertising has worked very well. Since we have started this multi media approach, business has grown 30%. I happened to read a book titled Guerilla Marketing, and it set me on a path to thinking a bit differently about how I advertise. Good luck on your meeting.May 6, 2008 at 3:49 pm #149391chez6996ParticipantHi Bryan,
Is that the same Guerrilla Marketing written by Jay Levinson? If so I agree, it is must reading!!!! I have it on a CD (25- READY-TO-USE MARKETING TACTICS)
RonMay 6, 2008 at 8:29 pm #149392AnonymousInactiveThat’s correct Ron. I guess he has several of these books out, I think I have the latest one. I agree with you . . . A Must Read.
May 7, 2008 at 4:19 am #149393FL18ParticipantThanks Bryan,
Is this all on cable, or are you mixing in local tv? I was thinking of just doing the cable. How much is this costing you guys? Is this any time frame or did you guys have specific time frames? I know with cable you can target specific zip codes. Let me know. Thanks for the info. Cody had mentioned you guys at our seminar in TX.
May 8, 2008 at 12:03 am #149394AnonymousInactiveRight now it’s all on cable. We get to pick the channels specific to who we think our market is. They run them at various times, and we run the 100 ads in the 1st two weeks of the month. We run them on HGTV, Fox News Station, Learning channel, and it’s free on the weather channel. We can change the channels each month if we want to. The cost is $300 per month. It’s been a very good investment in my market.
We did some local tv when we first started this and it was very expensive; $30 per commercial. Much less exposure, but we were able to choose the specific times that it aired. (This is not a great choice in my opinion.)
I’m hoping for the new HB commercials to be available very soon. I would like to keep our ads fresh to attract more and new attention.
May 8, 2008 at 2:35 am #149395FL18ParticipantThank you so much. I enjoyed your article in the May Newsletter as well. I’m looking to go zip code specific in Mission, McAllen, Edinburg TX. There are about 100,000 give or take subscribers to cable here in South Texas. I am little worried about the whole Direct TV competition thing but not too worried. We meet witht the guy next Thursday. One more question to bug you with. What is your population? I realize this varies market to market regardless of population. My area is 90% plus hispanic. We have a high end market though. Trust me on that one. The rep had mentioned to me on the phone about the lifetime network–a channel catered to women. I noticed Oxygen as well. I have a packet of the channels by the way. We really want to do this. I will assume the pricing to be higher in my area due to extreme population. I will be looking at ratings. Any suggestions from you to prepare for meeting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again Bryan. I appreciate the info and hope this helps those who read all these postings between you and I. I am also curious as to why the 1st two weeks of the month for your ads. Are you doing this the whole year, or certain times of the year. I apologize again. Just picking your brain.
God Bless,

PS Bryan. Which HB commericials are you currently using?

Mike NowlinMike, what exactly do you mean? Say it like it is.

People to tend to assume that the Rio Grande Valley, especially people in North Texas and abroad, that South Texas is a poor area. According to welfare statistics, a third government aid and state aid (food stamps–aka Lone Star), medical help, utility bill help, welfare, etc.. That is because a high portion of the population is poor and does need assistance. There is also a high portion that get free government help with the aid of fake socials, id’s, free loaders in other (nicer) terms. I am not trying to stereotype or offend anyone. I believe the rest of the country does this to South Texas. My point was, if I should consider the commercials to reach my target market which is obviously high end. If I were racist against hispanics, I don’t think I would be living here bro. So don’t be offended. Stats tend to be meaningless sometimes. Especially when people don’t actually live here. In my home town back in Ft. Worth, there were white trash free loaders as well. The numbers claim the Valley is one of the worst. I agree to a certain extent. There are those who need help and those who take advantage. So, if I offended you, I apologize. A high number of my upper end clients are Mexican Nationals and they are some the nicest people you will ever meet.

May 8, 2008 at 10:59 pm #149398FL18ParticipantA side note to my post above. My son is half hispanic, half white.
May 13, 2008 at 3:24 am #149399AnonymousInactiveMike,
I just randomly chose the 1st two weeks of the month . . . no particular reason. I’ll probably change at some time to different times of the month. To answer your other question, yes I’m doing the commercials the whole year. The more I hammer on people, the more business I get. Here’s my simple philosophy. I want to pick at peoples brains a bit like a pesky kid. . . Always there. Then at certain times of the year I want to hit them up side the head, so I run seasonal ads in the local newspapers. In-be-tween, I do some direct mail, target marketing, and other things to specific markets. Multiple medias and never ending. I feel the tv commercials are part of the foundation of my marketing plan.
May 13, 2008 at 6:47 pm #149400FL18ParticipantThanks for the all the info and letting me pick your brain. I greatly appreciate it. I know that one advertising medium is not enough, especially in a large population such as mine. Thanks again. God Bless.
