When you’ve been doing something for so long you learn things. So for those of you that have been cleaning t&g, please share any and all advice that you have.
September 8, 2006 at 2:48 pm #147503WA06ParticipantHey Ron
I would also love to hear any Ideas or tips. We just started to do the tile and hard wood a couple of weeks ago . I would also like to know what price you guys charge
Thanks Joe
September 9, 2006 at 12:34 am #147504AnonymousInactiveI don’t do tile and grout, but I have done some wood floors. I charge around .40 per square foot. I like doing the wood floors but haven’t had much call for it.
September 9, 2006 at 2:15 am #147505AnonymousInactiveI do not do T&G either. Wood floors are becoming more common after I added it to my Yellow Ad. Most of the wood I’ve been doing is in late 1800’s – early 1900’s homes. In addition to pre-cleaning, I spend time scraping paint, pulling carpet pad staples, ect. I have a base price of 50 cents. I seldom reduce from there but I have gone up to a buck. I do like the process and results but it can be very time consuming. I use furniture sliders called (EZMOVES). They make one type for carpet and and another for hard surface floors. They work GREAT! http://www.ezmoves.com. At no cost, you can become a retailer.

We are planning on .85 cents psf. That is the average in our area. Depends on type of tile as well. So many different types and the way they are made. I have been reasearching mexican tile (Saltillo tile) for 2 months. Our products won’t work on it because of the porisity. This is primarily seen in southern U.S. I have talked to John and am making plans to find something that works because this stuff is all over southern texas and most likely California and Arizona as well.

that would be my fault.
I will fix it.September 18, 2006 at 2:01 pm #147509jrcarpetclean22ParticipantI have been offering/doing T&G from the start. I charge .50 sq/ft for T&G, and the same for the wood floors. I’m going to raise that .25 if I keep getting jobs. T&G is time consuming and very labor intensive if the floors are real dirty. I have found myself having to clean tough floors two times or more to get them clean. I loath the grout brush. Yes it works, but it will also work you out. The floor that John is cleaning on the demo video is not that dirty so the effort is a bit understated. I would also suggest looking at the condition of the T&G prior to cleaning and charge based on the level of difficulty. Happy Scrubbing! 😛
September 23, 2006 at 8:33 pm #147510AnonymousInactiveI have been thinking seriously about adding T&G to my services. The only problem is i feel i am ill trained. The only training i had with it was an hour or so at a regional seminar about 3 years ago. and to be honest i didn’t think i would be interested in doing it. I should have paid more attention but too late for that now!. I feel that the video is too vague to be much help.
September 24, 2006 at 4:17 pm #147511chez6996ParticipantFor some reason my Florida people are afraid to use this valuable tool “the voice board” so I will answer for many of them!!!!!!!! I think we “hollered first” about getting into T&G cleaning because we saw so much of it being put in homes and offices down here, Corporate spent a year or more researching before they gave us our cleaning line, Yes, it is labor intense (the grout) but we can price accordingly, some cleaners are getting a dollar per sq. my people get at least .75 per sq. which now makes it worth while. The tile cleaning is normally a “piece of cake” We wanted tile cleaning so we could keep our good customers, before, we would go in a home, clean everything except tile in kitchen or bath and when the customer asked us if we could clean those areas, we would have to say no. This left the door open for another cleaner to get into our good customer’s home, something we did not want to happen! My feeling is all HB operators should be offering tile cleaning !!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps

P.S. We are now seeing many new homes 100% tile or carpet only in bedrooms.October 8, 2006 at 2:54 am #147512Dan ChildParticipantHello Everyone,
I am new in Atlanta, GA. I have made a commitment to cleaning T&G, but I’d like to know the process a better. I’ve seen the video to and it is a little vague. Any tips on cleaning restaurants, daycares, etc.. Greasy areas. Anything about the specific process from applying the hardfloor cleaner to drying would help.
Thanks

October 9, 2006 at 4:44 pm #147513pachecoParticipantAfter most all t&g jobs, I promise myself not to quote any more… Kind of like the bumper sticker, “I’d rather bee fishing”… “I’d rather be carpet cleaning”
I hate cleaning white grout…it is nearly impossible to get white and clean looking.
October 9, 2006 at 5:15 pm #147514FL18ParticipantThe question is “why not”. Tile and grout is very labor intensive, but it is it’s own seperate buiness. In other words, once you get those tile jobs going it’s like a whole nother business in itself. Charge anywhere from .50 cents to 1.25 per sq ft. It is tough work, but puts more money in your pocket.

October 9, 2006 at 9:22 pm #147515AnonymousInactiveMy first t&g job was 3 weeks ago. We sent out our quarterly newsletter 4 weeks ago and was hit with 6 t&g jobs within a week of the mailing. I’ve made over $2k just from those jobs.
October 10, 2006 at 3:03 am #147516AnonymousInactiveRon, what systen are you using? If your going to get serious with T&G then you might want to check out this site and click on live video….
