I think that to get are carpet cleaning franchise to the next level we need to start doing a national tv ad. I have been cleaning and advertising in my area now for 8 years and everybody i talk to says they have never heard of us before. If you ask people whats the main carpet cleaning company they have heard of , just about everyone will say stanely steamer. It seems like everybody knows stanely steamer and thats because they advertise on tv. Did you know that we are 4 times bigger than stanely steamer. They have under 300 franchises. I think corperate should figure out a cost for advertising on tv and let us all know what this would cost a month and then let us vote on it. I know I would be willing to spend quite abit every month to be on tv. This would help us get jobs and help grow are franchise. If Cody could just check into it and give everyone an idea of how much it would cost. Remember he who advertises the most wins!

I agree that TV ads would be very beneficial to the growth of everyone, however, some may not want to grow or may not be able to afford the fees. I am totally in favor of national advertising, but if I wasn’t, I would hate to be forced into paying the fees. It would be very interesting to gather an aprox. monthly cost then followed with a vote. We may be surprised by the outcome. Good topic Brett!September 30, 2008 at 1:54 pm #152644AnonymousInactiveBrett,
I agree with Sutton. Also as an FYI, just cuz we have more franchises than SS doesn’t mean we’re bigger. They run up to 100 trucks in my area alone, although Denver is one of their top 3 areas annually. Also, have you ever seen when/where they run ads? I can tell you they spend a TON of money on tv advertising and I base this on one word…..OPRAH.September 30, 2008 at 4:02 pm #152645AnonymousInactiveHey Dave lets try to keep this positive. I am interested in people that are wanting to get national tv ads going. Im not interested in how many vans stanely steamer runs in your area. I was using it as an example. As far as franchises are concerned we are bigger, alot bigger. Lets talk national advertising. The bulletin board should be a POSITIVE place.
Brian I understand were your coming from as far as certain people may not want to grow or may not have the money for that type of advertising. The big thing is with tv ads you could cut back on some of your other advertising to pay for the tv ads. It would also make are business worth alot more and make them easier for resale, I think everybody would like that.
September 30, 2008 at 11:35 pm #152646AnonymousInactiveThis would be an interesting study. About Stanley Steemer . . . they advertise huge in my area and don’t even have an operator here! I’ll bet that’s their motive . . . to gain one.
For the last 8-9 months, I have done my own tv advertising. $300/mo. gets me around 100 commercials. It’s had a very good impact on my business. Well worth the money for me. This reinforces my opinion on national advertising. It may be good for operators and generating interest in new franchises. Good topic!
October 1, 2008 at 2:41 am #152647Larry youngParticipantthere is nothing wrong with people stating their opininos as long as we respect each other.
My personal opionion is I don’t want national advertising I am usualy bussyer then I would like to be letting word of mouth grow my bussiness.
Just my 2 cents change is available if needed. 😆(we need spell check on this thing)
October 1, 2008 at 3:44 am #152648AnonymousInactiveHey Dave i just wanted to apoligize for what I wrote to you. After I read it back I realized how mean it sounded and I didnt want it to sound that way. Lets keep this post going i think its an interesting topic.
October 1, 2008 at 1:08 pm #152649AnonymousInactiveBrett,
No worries. I don’t get offended easily. If my post was negative, I apologize. I am not against a TV campaign. I do however believe a lot of research needs to go into it before I would feel comfortable with one if we are forced to participate with our dollars. TV is the quickest way to get large exposure though, so it’s definitely something that needs to be looked into at some point whether locally or nationally.
October 1, 2008 at 2:08 pm #152650Loren TurnerParticipantHey BFerris
any way we could see your commercial? Ever since you started talking about it a while ago, I have been dying to see it. Thanks Steve 😯October 1, 2008 at 5:53 pm #152651HBPuyallupParticipantI would be interesting to see the results from the people who do it already. I sure Cody as looked in to it a little bit already. A few years ago I saw some commercials that corporate made up. The bigger we get or the more areas we cover the cheaper I assume it gets cheaper. More exposure the better right? As long as its good exposure. ha ha. It’s definitely worth looking into.
October 1, 2008 at 8:46 pm #152652AnonymousInactiveSteve, You can view the commercial we use on the Heaven’s Best Advertising Center. Go to the TV/Radio Ads and click on Flash videos. The commercial we have been running is the 42 second generic video. They shortened the end to make it 30 seconds. On the last screen we customized our current “special” and local phone numbers. Audio was added saying we serve the Mason City, Charles City area and call about our $99 Special.
BryanOctober 2, 2008 at 1:19 am #152653Loren TurnerParticipantThanks will do.
November 3, 2008 at 3:35 pm #152654IN01ParticipantI wouldn’t be opposed to TV ads. I see SS ALL THE TIME here! It’s kind of irritating when you’re singing it in your head all day and they’re the competition! 😛
Again, it would come down to cost and what we could afford. Word of mouth has been good, but not enough to grow in this economy here. Product recognition is a good thing.
November 3, 2008 at 6:14 pm #152655pachecoParticipantBiting my tongue too long on this one…Bret started this with saying something about going to the next level, then mentioning SS? Then TV came into the mix…
We are the next level, aren’t we? We are bigger, higher ranked all over the place and do a much better job. Why are they advertising all over the place in the first place? They do bad work and charge a lot for it.
How many of us have SS past customers?
Are they, SS, making money…I am not so sure. Maybe they are…but at a 7% royalty, off the top? Before taxes….puts a hurt on one, real fast. Whether or not there is any real increase in business…7% would kill us.
Does everyone really want to grow to an average of 17 employees/unit as SS has? Not me. No way…too many headaches.
TV is much cheaper in less populous markets, and very very expensive in more populated areas. Small markets may be much better off using TV, than larger more expensive markets.
Before we should ever consider TV, we all should be doing all we can to maximize our marketing efforts in our specific area, share more ideas in the bulletin board from more than the 10- 25 regulars and think a little differently about the next level…
I wonder just how many SS operators are out there wishing they owned a HB franchise? I wonder how many Chem Dry owner operators out there who wish they were here as well?
In a terrible recession looming, near depression…however the election turns out…now is no time to think about how greener the grass may seem in SS/CD worlds….I am not so certain that it is.
My bucks worth…go ahead and shoot me down guys…
November 5, 2008 at 5:06 pm #152656hbottumwaParticipantAll of these are good points.
Service Master or Stanley Steamer (I can’t remember which or the two) spent 5 million this year in national TV ads.
What percentage of that bill do you want to pay? Who would decide how, where, and with who those ads are ran?
I am the expert in the markets in my area. and you are the expert in yours. As it is, you have the complete choice to advertise how. and with who as you see fit.
Some operators would go under if we had a mandatory pay out for national advertising.
I don’t want to give up that control of advertising.(place or $)I’m glad I’m in Heaven’s Best!
