I received a package the other day from a pet supply company that had green peanuts and I suspected they were biodegradable…they were…I ate one. The melt in your mouth with water or saliva…
Anyway, in the ease vs the west…we have disposal limitations without paying since landfills are not plentiful and cost for disposal high. The green peanuts are disposable with 100% biodegradability, non static like ours, no CFCs used in teir fg, no air pollution from manufacture, recyclable and reusable and no dependence upon foreign oil.
As we are attempting to go greener as a company, it makes sense to be for the company to consider this as a step in the right direction…the more proactive we become as a company, the better received by the public..

Even though our peanuts are not green, I think they are made out of the same stuff. I think I’ve tried one in the past and it disolved as well. I think they are made out of corn.December 23, 2009 at 1:25 pm #154040pachecoParticipantOurs, I believe, are made from styrofoam or a close relative with a 1/2 life of some 500-1,000 years in a landfill…I believe you are right though …if memory serves, they biodegradable ones are made of corn starch and dissolve almost instantly when hit with water. Taste is neutral and I flushed a whole box of them down the toilet in three flushes.
Hey, even the air filled bubble wrap is better, at least the space in the landfill is less.
If I am in error, I am sorry…

December 24, 2009 at 5:25 pm #154042Ca22ParticipantI am not sure about eating the peanuts and how good they taste, but we recycle ours. We do lot of shipping and reuse all peanuts that we get. I end up buying the anti static peanuts and get them from uline for $25 for a 20 cu ft bag. They are made from 100% recycled material. The peanuts that come from corporate get thrown in the mix and get recycled back to other shipping departments. A simple little change like this could cost us a lot more in the end. Last thing we want is the box to get wet and melt. Not to mention the extra cost for going green. My suggestion is ship me the peanuts and I will reuse them. Just kidding, but if you bag them up and when you have a large bag ship them back to Cody I am sure he would love to reuse them. If it comes down to the cost of going green, but you still want to do your part find a local company that does shipping and offer to drop them off.

December 29, 2009 at 1:10 am #154044AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry, I mistakenly thought that the peanuts were the ones that dissolve. I unload these things all the time, you’d think I’d have paid more attention!
January 6, 2010 at 11:18 pm #154045Bwaite77ParticipantI usually save mine until I fill a whole box, and then I drop it off at my local UPS Store.
They use it to fill outgoing boxes, thus recycling the peanuts. I even take a few empty boxes with me.
If they don’t use the boxes, it is likely they have cardboard recycling.
If your concerned with cardboard recycling, you can take the empty boxes to your local Walmart.
They bale theirs for recycling.Green or White… I’m Green
