Hey all, seems like I’ve ran into this problem several times recently. It happens on normal plush carpets in traffic areas. It will look fairly normal before I clean but after there will be a very distinct pattern in the carpet that makes it look like the carpets are real dirty in that spot. I think it is just from the traffic that certain areas get more than the rest and it lays and wears differently. It looks really bad though… I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if there is anything to do about it.
thank ya’ll,

We have experience a distinctive pattern after raking “looks like a river” and it does make the carpet look dirty/darker in certain areas. When I first experience this, I talked to corporate and a carpet store we share referrals with; they indicated this is just how certain carpets wear. It is only obvious when the carpet is moist & raked. So, that is exactly what we tell our customers. I let them know it is only temporary. Once we do the call backs; customers confirm they no longer see this pattern.

Have a great day.

“Reverse Carpet Pooling” it is a “phenom” that carpet manufactures do not have an answer for. It is not covered under warranty and happens on newer and older carpets. At least that is the information I have.
A good one to hear from would be Tim Nemeth.April 7, 2008 at 12:49 am #151881IA43MemberYep, that’s exactly what I’m talking about… looks like a river. Good to hear that it goes away after a while…

Thanks for the articles. They clear up any misunderstandings on this topic. Oh yeah, good job to you too DB.April 11, 2008 at 1:07 am #151884AnonymousInactiveI’ve seen it many times look like a snake running down the hallway or along the heavily traveled areas. I call it reverse pile syndrome which is created by either extreme amount of traffic in certain areas or there may be a slight defect in the carpet pile direction which shows up after it has been installed for some time. If you are confident and explain it to the customer you will come across as very knowledgeable person. Education of the customer is right near the top of the to-dos when cleaning carpet.
April 15, 2008 at 11:56 pm #151885HB2003ParticipantGood info. In Mr. Devlin’s Articles, there is another link to a technical bulletin that is good to print out and have on hand just in case the customer tries to point blame…
April 22, 2008 at 2:29 am #151886FL18ParticipantLBurk has a good description “river” of the carpet your talking about. As mentioned already. It will go away. I have customer with this “phenom” and do her carpet every 3 months. She has never complained once.
