By using the spilt pads, we have little problem with spinning, except on thick pile carpet on steps…then a little more difficult to get it to spin. But splitting the pads is the secret…another is the buffer is too low in power at 1/3 hp.
We should be using a 1/2 hp machine. On commercial, low pile carpet, using a split pad allows the pad to spin freely. Absolutely no one in the organization has said a word about even trying to sacrifice a pad to see if what I am saying works. We have been doing it for almost exactly 3 years now and it works!
October 6, 2006 at 2:58 am #146996AnonymousInactiveDave, good post. I made a post with exactly the same idea about 3 or 4 years ago. The green stripe pads for the small buffer won’t work as they are, but if you split them, they work really well and I think they last longer than the thin white pads. I haven’t purchase stair pads lately, can we still get the green striped pads still?
October 6, 2006 at 12:20 pm #146997pachecoParticipantNo idea…been using ours since before Cody offered and still work. We DO NOT use the plain white pads since they bunch up and wrinkle and do not work at all. They are junk.
October 6, 2006 at 3:04 pm #146998hbottumwaParticipantDave, I know you have good thoughts, I’m alittle confused. You don’t use white pads, you split what pads?
Gov. Sutton? Boy does that have a ring to it or what! Not yet? After Nov. election? I love your spin! You got my vote and I don’t even live in IA. Are you excepting political contributions? Could you sent me a copy of your TV ad ? We don’t get them here in Oregon.
October 6, 2006 at 8:01 pm #146999pachecoParticipantthe green stripe pads, making two single side pads from one double sided pad.
October 6, 2006 at 10:54 pm #147000hbottumwaParticipantTry again, is this the 19″ or the 13″. I only have the plain white 13″ pads. Is there any other? If so what?
October 7, 2006 at 12:15 am #147001AnonymousInactiveGordon,
When we first started using the Oreck buffers, I think the first pad offered was the greenstriped pad. I don’t think they went over well because trying to use them in their original form did not work. So, Dave and I discovered on our own that if you cut the binding from around the edge of those pads, you end up with 2 one-sided pads that work quite well. The only option we have now is for the white Oreck pads (i think). Different than Dave, I have had success with those as well.October 7, 2006 at 12:20 am #147002pachecoParticipantAmen Bryan. Thanks. Dave
October 7, 2006 at 2:56 am #147003hbottumwaParticipantTHANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!
I can now sleep in peace tonight.
At least I think. There’s this thing called teenagers…October 7, 2006 at 1:43 pm #147004AnonymousInactiveThe stair pad that I use is a 13″ wooven turf pad. Adam can get these if you special order them. I feel these work very well. They stick to the drive plate well enough that you can buff the riser. The thing you have to watch is the build-up of cotton in the grippers of the drive plate. You must keep it clean out to maximize it’s holding power.
October 7, 2006 at 2:39 pm #147005pachecoParticipantBrian,
Thanks for the update. Did not know that little tid bit. By splitting the pads as described ad nauseum, the pad spins faster and more pressure can be applied.
Thanks for your info.
DaveFebruary 23, 2007 at 1:03 am #147006AnonymousInactiveIs there any chance of being able to order the original “green turf” pads for the stair buffers? I am not a fan of the white pads as after using them for only a couple jobs, I have a feeling they will be completely fuzzed out and worthless in a short amount of time. No chance of splitting the white pads like the green ones to increase the lifespan. Guessing splitting would not be possible with small woven turf pads either, but others could comment better on that since I haven’t used them. The “teeth” on the plate for the oreck are extremely hard on stair pads as most of us have found out and any means to extend their lives and save operator costs is essential.
February 23, 2007 at 3:29 am #147007HB2003ParticipantThe white pads don’t last long at all. It would be nice to getter a better pad for the stair buffer…
February 23, 2007 at 4:00 am #147008AnonymousInactiveTalk to Adam about the wooven turf pads. I think they work great and last a long time.
February 23, 2007 at 1:16 pm #147009CO11ParticipantI am not trying to get around buying from Heaven’s Best, but is there any place I can purchase the green stripe 13 inch pad. I have looked everywhere I know to look. I have a church and a funeral home coming up next week. The large buffer will not fit between the pews hence the reason I need the small buffer.
