Good afternoon. I am wondering if any of you have ever had any luck removing stains that are caused by floor mats with rubber backing? Gave a bid on a job yesterday and the lady showed me how in her master bath, the area rugs she had put over her carpet had, over time, caused some serious stains. I will add that she has had her carpets cleaned by SS and Coit in the past and they have not budged the stains at all.

This yellowing is caused by the rubber backing. I know of nothing to remove it. It seems that the black backing is the worst.

The update is that I did the job today and you were all correct. I tried everything in my kit and nothing moved it to the point I would say it would have succeded completely. I did try pet enzyme and it did appear to greatly lighten the yellowing on the one spot. However, the time, effort and amount of solution it would have taken to get what may have been just “okay” results was prohibitive. My brother told me to let it remain her problem and I took his advice.

Caused by a solvent called BHT. BHT is butyl-hydroxyl-toluene and may be found in some pads.

Is that the same BHT found in food preservatives? Yum!
