    Hi Everyone,

A new customer of mine has a stain from where some water spilled out from the Christmas tree water basin. As expected, little to no change after normal cleaning. Does anyone know of any products/procedures that work on such a stain?

    Thank you,

    Patrick Toews

Is the stain strictly from the tree water? Or did the water get a tree skirt or wrapping paper wet, which in turn bled color onto the carpet? If the later, can try a dye treatment, but we’ve never had much luck with those dye bleeds. If it’s just the water, search on the board for plant spills. There have been a thread or two about water from pots that people have commented on. Should be similar situation. Could be some tree sap involved too (for which you could try just hot water, a blood/protein remover, or TGP/Dry solvent). If it’s got a brown/yellowish color, may want to try wood stain remover.

I’ve had some good results on plant stains with coffee remover after extracting what I could with spot plus machine. Wood stain remover has worked from time to time but have patience with the steaming part of it. Don’t over heat to prevent carpet melting especially with olefin.

    Patrick,
Many times the stain can be caused by rust. Many tree stands are metal which have been painted, but there are usually some bare spots, like the little hook that the tree stands on. This can cause a rusty water mix. If this is spilled on the carpet, you will need to use rust remover to get it out.

Thank you Cody. Hadn’t thought of that… that might help.
