InactiveToo often, the customer doesn’t always do a very good job of clearing the snow and ice off the driveway and sidewalks. I have gotten tired of getting stuck on a flat glacier like frozen wasteland called a driveway. I now carry a small container of ice melter in the van and use a small amount for traction under the wheels to eliminate wheel spin. It doubles for traction on the sidewalks, keeps me safer, leaves no grit and vaccumms up if I should track any into the house. It is unfortunate the some of the warmer franchises are not lucky enough to endure this little artic experience.

InactiveI feel your pain. I carry a small shovel in our van. Doesn’t work on the ice, buy I can at least create a small path to the door if the customer hasn’t already shoveled, or helps if we get stuck in a drift which did happen once this year. Ice melt is a good idea too.

InactiveI take Bryan Ferris along so he can push. He will also lay his coat down for me to walk on. He’s a great guy!

ParticipantGood tip Loren, I’ve spun my way out of a few driveways. A few years back I got a bit fed up when I arrived at a home after 10″ of snow to find the walk hadn’t been cleared or the driveway. We lugged everything in through it, cleaned, and lugged it all out through it. Lesson learned. Now I always ask customers to clear the walk as best they can. Of course if they are seniors we are willing to do this for them but there’s no reason the younger ones can’t. I think the customers need a reminder sometimes and most are very good. We shovel enough snow as it is we shouldn’t have to do it at our jobs. Now lets Think Spring, it was 0 this morning!!! I’m sure Denis in Conway,NH is thinking this is Balmy.

InactiveSutton,
I will push the van, I will shovel the snow to get the van out, I will spread the sand for traction . . . but you know that coat that I laid down for you? It was the one I borrowed from you last week! -
