Has anyone used any smaller phonebooks besides the yellowbook and verizon. We have a small phone book here called easypages. They suopposedly guarantee you 5 calls per month with a a half page ad and if they don’t fulfill the agreement they prorate it. Just want to know if anyone else has tried smaller books and had any success with them.
Thanks,

Sometimes a smaller book will let you focus in a smaller area that you really want to focus in.
Also, make sure you monitor where your calls are coming from. Compute the calls, divide by $dollars$ spent, and compare the price per customer and you no longer have to take the word of any salesman. You just need to do your own little research.October 4, 2007 at 12:04 am #150730GA18ParticipantMike,
I have opted to use a couple of smaller books that AT&T put out. They are cheaper and I find that clients use them more because they are small and easier to have around. Also, I find that the “big guys” tend to stay away from these books, so I am able to be a “big fish”. My advice is that if it is not one of the bigger name books, save your dinero.

JamieOctober 4, 2007 at 3:32 pm #150732AnonymousInactiveWe are pulling out of the phone books that we are not co-op’d with other area operators. This will amount to about $1k monthly. During the slower months we will save this money and during the busier months we will spend that money on franchise express. This will give us about 18k-20k fliers to send out. About 90% of the yellow page calls are “shoppers”. This is a waste of my time on the phone and a waste of advertising dollars.
October 4, 2007 at 5:56 pm #150733chez6996ParticipantThank You for that response Ron!!! That was what I was trying to get across in my article in the newsletter a couple of months ago. We found (in Florida) you can control your advertising dollars much better without yellow pages. More advertising dollars when in the busy season and lighten up in the slow season. I really like the looks of franchise express, could you inform us what your success is with them?
RonOctober 5, 2007 at 2:21 pm #150734Dan ChildParticipantI am not a fan of Yellow Pages in my area…I went with Bellsouth (New AT&T), they messed up my ad to begin with, and it never produced what it cost. Didn’t sign up again this year. Maybe a smaller book is the way to go.
October 5, 2007 at 9:13 pm #150735AnonymousInactiveThe foundation of my business was built on franchise express. I used them exclusively the first year and a half. I haven’t used them since the holidays last year, however I am about it send out a flier in 2 weeks.
October 8, 2007 at 2:28 am #150736AnonymousInactiveRon how do you charge? Sq ft or room? and what specials do u run with franchise express.
October 8, 2007 at 2:30 am #150737AnonymousInactiveper room…specials are geographically dependant.
October 8, 2007 at 10:23 pm #150738KY13ParticipantHey Ron can you give any tips on using Franchise Xpress?
October 9, 2007 at 4:12 am #150739AnonymousInactiveI’m not sure what tips I should give you or which tips would even work in your area. I don’t know your demographics, your competition or how busy you are. WWFODAWFA….can anyone figure out this acronym?

No, well it’s been fun anyway!October 10, 2007 at 3:31 am #150741AnonymousInactiveWhat Works For One Doesn’t Always Work For All. Ron is right. Getting info from others can help you make a wise choice, but you still need to find what works best for you in your area. Networking with other service businesses in your area can give you some great insight as to what may work best for you.

Ideas for Franchise Xpress flyers have been discussed quite a bit in the past, including the various prices we have tried. I believe this information is available in some older advertising threads. There are numerous tips for ads and pricing – too many to discuss in one post. However, I think you could review older posts to learn sort of a price range we have all tired. Then you decide and go with it. Adjust a bit later if you don’t get a decent response.
If you review some of Ron’s older posts, you can see that he started out pricing on the lower and he kept raising his prices. His business did not slow down as he raised prices.
Cody has a lot of advice for us. One of his tips really sticks out – “Don’t judge your customers’ ability to pay based on your own ability to pay.” or something close to that.
