I’m going to clean some tile and grout this week and the customer would like to know if I can clean the tile on the shower walls as well. This is new construction and the excess grout was left to dry on the shower tiles on the wall. Is there anyone who has cleaned the tiles on shower walls and how did they do it? You can’t use the buffer on the wall unless you want to ruin your back so I was wondering if all I would need is the grout brush, solution and stair buffer to polish it at the end? I’m comfortable trying to clean the tiling on the floor from watching John’s video so I figure with a little improvising the shower tiles could be done similarly just with slightly different usage of the equipment. Or is this just one of those things that we’re not equipped for at all? Thanks.

Unless I am mistaken…when the grout dries on he tile, the layer made a huge mistake. I have seen this before and was told by the manager that it is virtually impossible to take off. I would ask the customer if he could get the tile layer to remove the grout left behind first…

Call Big Bad John…and take his advice. You run a great risk of ruining the new tile finish/glaze by mechanically removing the grout.

Wish you the best…just my thoughts. I have walked away from a couple of bath jobs just like this due to the nature of the beast. The risk/reward ratio was not in my favor. If not, I walk…or run.

    I agree Dave,
My partner and myself have had many a tile person leave grout all over the new tiles to dry!!!!! Floor or walls, if it’s new, you better be prepared with good quality mask, safety glasses, gloves and muritaic acid to remove dryed grout. Cleaning dirt from grout and cleaning grout off tiles is two very different jobs!

Thanks guys. I wasn’t sure about it so I’m glad I asked. I just spoke with the customer a few hours ago and they said that they were having the original tile & grout guys correct that problem before I would clean the showers. Fortunately for me there is plenty of tile flooring that I’m still green lighted for at the property while I wait for the shower tile problem to be fixed. Later.
