I don’t know how many of you read the Heaven’s Best monthly newsletter but I usually do, somehow though I missed the lead story in the July 2011 issue. During a recent attempt at cleaning up my desk I came across the newsletter and started to read the article, up until this point I felt pretty good about my carpet cleaning business I just finished up August and did just over 14k for the month but I had no clue whatsoever that Heaven’s Best has one man operations that are doing over 36k a month. After picking my jaw up off the floor I realized that I was being short sighted when it comes to how much revenue can be generated in a months time. He was able to do about 2 1/2 times what I did in terms of revenue in the same about of time. If you have not had a chance to read the article I highly recommend you go back and read it. I also sent a suggestion to Randy (state owner of WA) and Cody that they interview some of the top operators and put up a podcast or video so we can all learn from them, I think it would be great motivational material.

I have always said that this business will be what we make it, or what we let it be. I think we can each maximize our own areas with a lot of hard work and energy. Not every area can produce that sort of income . . . and certainly not every operator can physically do that much work. That’s amazin’!
As a bit of a side note to the one person operation, I just read an article in the new ICS mgazine. It’s titled Your Personal disaster Plan. All operators should read this. Go to: http://www.icsmag.com

It’s on page 14 of the September 2011 issue of Cleaning Specialist titled Your Personal Disaster Plan.

If your sales each month was this then you would have $168,000 in annual sales. Usually a one person operation needs to expand when annual sales near $90,000 to $100,000. For a two person operation, this is doable or if there is a second shift. Don’t burn the candle at both ends, we all need to enjoy life and the rewards that being self employed can bring. What good does a extremely large sales volume do in the long run if it burns you out?
September 27, 2011 at 4:05 am #155266AnonymousGuestDisclaimer: This post is in no way meant to be interpreted negatively. I hate to rain on a man’s parade, however, I read this article back in July and to date I continue to ask how is it possible that a one man show can generate over $36K month after month. It is simply impossible to do this kind of volume without any consistent (everyday) assistance. The body simply cannot handle this kind of work load regardless of age and fitness level. Hell, you dont even time to eat and refuel your body! I was told this operator had a bunch of government work, which my experience tells me it is low bid work and thus, leaves me further scratching my head. Trust me, I have laid awake many a night analyzing this. The other day it hit me. I believe the only way a one man operation could generate this volume, without any meaningful assistance, is by subbing out work.

I tried tried calling him a couple of times but never get a call back so I have no other info. I would love to hear from some of the other top earners so we can get a better idea of just what is possible.
January 10, 2012 at 4:45 pm #155268AnonymousInactiveI agree that this is an incredibly impressive revenue figure but have also wondered how this could be accomplished. As a new operator I too would really like to see video interviews of such operators explaining their successes and best practices.
I am inspired by such stories, however would like to see or hear about the strategies implemented to achieve them so that we could replicate such success.

I have spoken with Cody about doing either some sort of webinar or at the seminar. Not sure if any of it is going to happen but the idea was presented.
January 11, 2012 at 5:53 pm #155271AnonymousInactiveYes, James will be doing a presentation at the international seminar. Every operator and area has unique circumstances, and what works for one may not work for another. We are all individuals and some want to work harder than others, some work smarter than others. Some are very goal driven, and some just go with the flow. This is not a judgment as to which is right or which is wrong, but it does give some insight of what is possible.
I would love to be able to play a musical instrument extremely well, but I do not play at all. If I wanted to take the time to learn and practice, I could play an instrument well. Each of us have so much potential, but we use very little of our capacity. A muscle becomes stronger as it is exercised. A weight that is impossible to lift today with our current muscle capacity can easily be lifted as we develop, grow, and strengthen that same muscle.
The focus of the international seminar will be to give you the vision of what is possible. Everything that we do in life extracts its price from us. The first question is what do we really want? The next question is are we willing to pay the price?
Those who say it can’t be done are usually passed up by someone doing it. It is human nature to justify our own lack of performance by trying to discredit those who are achieving it. We can all learn from each other. We can inspire and help others catch the vision. During the international seminar we will have presentations that will help you improve your business. I am looking forward to hearing what James Bonner has to say.
January 12, 2012 at 12:35 am #155272AnonymousInactiveSince becoming a new operator in Sept 2010 I have become close friends with the operator in question. I can assure everyone that the numbers stated are very real. I know this because I would have to talk his ass off the ledge. He would say ” man I only $7000 this week. I don’t know what’s going to happen next week.” While this is going on I’m doing $1000 a week.
All joking aside, I hope I can do half of what he is doing. He is extremely motivated and failure is not an option. That’s the way I am trying approach it.January 12, 2012 at 5:33 am #155273AnonymousInactiveI spent about a half hour on the phone with James today and I would like to clarify a few things. My original intent in starting this thread was to open the eyes of fellow HB operators, I for one have to say I was not aware that anyone was doing 30k plus per month. Up until the newsletter I had probably spoken with a dozen or so operators and most everyone was doing in the 8 to 12K range. I have come to find out that we have operators that have done more then 80k in one month so to me this was a learning experience and it has made me think more about what is really possible with this business. I have yet to devote full time to it and my best month so far is close to 15K. Everyone is unique and we are not all going to accomplish the same things in life, if we did life be a giant bore so be thankful that we do not all perform the same. I have never met James in person and my knowledge of him is very limited but from the conversation I had with him today I can tell the man is driven and has accomplished much in his life so the fact that he is very successful in this business is not really a surprise. I would encourage everyone to consider what it would take for you to do 30k in a month, for me I would have to double my best month. Now is that possible… Let’s run some numbers. for the most part I average 25 cents a sq foot. so for me to do 30k in one months times I would need to clean 120K sq feet of carpet. An average sized home in American according to the American Builders Association is 2,700 sq feet so let’s assume half of it is carpet which comes to 1350 sq ft, in order for me to do 30K I would need to do 89 homes in a months time, if I work Monday thru Friday on average that will give us 22 days a month so I need to do 4 jobs per day to equal 30K. Now before everyone jumps on me and says that no one gets work that steady or jobs all the same size please keep in mind this is just meant to show averages. It really is possible to do 30K per month without working yourself to death. I have had a handful of 1K plus days so just based on that alone I know I could do much more revenue then I am currently doing.
My hat is off to James and all of the other top HB operators. I hope to someday be in that group and I look forward to meeting more of you guys at the International Seminar.
