Is there anybody who actively sales one day a week all day? By this I mean that has pamphlets, brochures, etc. and hands them out to potential customers/business. I am not hurting for business unless I was to get a third van going. I have don’t it recently for one whole day. I am not a good salesman or at least I don’t like doing it. I can do it if they know I am coming, but not when they don’t know and I come unexpectedly. I have toyed around with the idea of hire a person. But I don’t know how I would pay. I would love to say and do commission only, but then will you have that person bidding really low to get the sale and your not really wanting to clean that restaurant at 15 cents a foot. I know that if I could do this for even 1 day a week for all day and do as many demos as possible my business would grow faster than ever and my winters wouldn’t be so slow. I would like to hear some other ideas about this especially if there is somebody that does this or whether it is you or an employee. I want to do this someday hopefully this year. I want to look at this from every angle. Thanks for the support

First, I had a HB operator tell me he was not a salesman and was not very good at it. With his wife sitting next to him, I explained your salesmanship got you married and it appears to still be working! And I don’t think you sold her a bill of goods. If you want to sell, you can sell.
Second, In farming out appointments for hire, 1. Set the goal and the boundries. (no resturants etc.) (spend a day with us cleaning, “see it done”)
2. Two ways I’ve hear of paying, 20% one time payout -or- 10% for each time the job is cleaned (as long as they are employed) Hope this helps.May 20, 2008 at 6:53 pm #152065HBPuyallupParticipantSo to give a little feed back on the day that I went knocking on doors. I had a list of businesses on this list it had everything: name phone # address e-mail, position whether is was the owner or manager, and even income. I map out he day and did two was able to do three demos and pass out about 15 sales packet. Since that day I have cleaned for one of them. One time was $1400 and it took two of my techs about 8.5 hours including drive time. Today they are up there again doing more for the same company. The amount will be probably around the same amount. I believe I will still need to go up there a third time. I don’t know if they want me to do once a year or twice a year. I am protecting all of the areas which help considerably. The place manages condos on a daily bases and people rent them out days at a time. This is what I want. I know this is good money and this the the type of business that I want. Knowing this it still doesn’t motivate me to do this even once a week for a day. Bottom line I know I need to do this and if I am to retire at a young age, which is my goal, I need to do this one way or another.

You got one, more will come. What type of sales packet are you using? Just curious. Ask them how frequent they would like you back. They obviously like the work and products or you would not be back. Great work.
God Bless,
Mike
May 21, 2008 at 12:12 am #152067HBPuyallupParticipantI will ask them. I’m sure it will be every 6 months but maybe not the whole unit and maybe traffic areas. The packet had the hb folders from corporate along with the hb brochure. It had our vision and mission statements with a few testimonials. 4 different before and after pics of my own that i had printed at king soopers for 10 cents each. Then we also had our checklist in there that has our written guarantees on it. Then of course we had our card in there in the slot. I thought they looked really sharp. I had it all printed up professionally and in color on glossy paper. Thanks for feed back. Is there anything that you think I should put in there?

Sales is definatly key. I know it sucks. I do it all day, all week, every other week. While my business partner does the jobs. I use Mike Nowlins packets and they seem to work very well. Thanks Mike! I myself am not a salesman. I just ask for the general manager or property manager, introduce myself, give them the packet, let them know we do a lot of (whatever it is, properties, apartments, hotels, etc) in the area and would like to provide a free demo to show the quality of our work. It takes some time. I get a lot of objections. But when I overcome them and actually get the demo, 98% of the time they will either use us as their sole cleaner or a backup at minimum.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
May 21, 2008 at 3:15 am #152069FL18ParticipantThanks Mike and James,
I’m glad you are using them. You are going to get told no, or get no response. It is part of the biz. But, know they know who you are, what you do, how you do it and you may have a potential customer down the line. We get referrals from people we speak with on the phone or give packets to and we haven’t even done anything for them. Then they call the people or business we were trying to land, and they end up using us anyway. Being the “backup” is better than not doing anything for them. It cost you some ink, but hey, if they are working then that’s great. 😀 I had one operator mention to add fabric protector to the packet. Duh on my part. I also didn’t put much in there about tile and grout but that is the beuaty of the packets. They are totally editable. You can change it, flip it, whatever. Happy to hear it. I like Matt’s idea as well.
Matt,
Those folders are nice. I thought about gettin some and tossing the packets in there. That way I can cut back on some ink and have the folder as my cover. Violet Aden in Corpous Christi uses only the pages of the packet with who we are and what we do. Don’t know how they are working for her. Should call her. Anyway, I love the vision and mission statement idea. Do you have your own or use corporates?Doing anything at all to get our name out there is better than sitting there waiting for the phone to ring. I’m glad to have some feedback on the packet. Let me know if any of you have recommendations for additions to it or if it needs cutting back. I am in the middle of a revision and Matt gave me some good ideas.
Side Note: I wear my Heaven’s Best Hat everywhere I go. It’s black with the logo on front. These are found in the on-line store with the shirts.
Hope all is well and keep selling,
Mike Nowlin

I can’t recommend anything. The HB brouchure covers the same as my packets, I think anyways. I think you have a good thing going. I need to add some before and afters in mine as well.
God Bless,

I recommend http://www.colorcopysite.com If i have a lot of color copies to print I use them. They do pretty good work and very reasonable. They put in on a thicker paper than standar paper and I payed about 13 cents a copy for color copies including shipping. The packets look great, and they are not as flimsy as regular paper. I then put them in clear plastic with a plastic spine. I think they are called report covers at staples. They look great. Just wanted to pass that site along if it could help anyone.
May 21, 2008 at 11:42 pm #152072HBPuyallupParticipantThe mission and vision statements are our own I feel it personalizes them. I forgot to mention one other thing that I put in there it was the ad the says why do property management companies like us.
