Does anyone have a person that sells all day and they pay them either a salary or commission. We are thinking about have someone be that person, but it wouldn’t be just to my area it would cover 3 other operators areas as well. The thought process is that we could clean for a businesses like a bank, hotels, or property management company, that all of our areas have in common. That person would talk to such places and try to get all the, for example, Compass Banks. Any thoughts would be wonderful. Thanks

    Matt:

I recently hired an assistant who is helping me with cleaning jobs and marketing. Since, I am starting a new territory and don’t necessarily have full-time work for him, I have offered him a two-stage hourly rate. He has a higher hrly/rate when cleaning and slightly above min wage + commission when doing cold calling/marketing on my behalf. It has only been 3 wks since the arrangement, however, is working very well. He was able to set up two demos this week with a restaurant and hotel. I feel setting up the face to face appointments is half the battle, I then come in and try and close the deal. Good luck.

Good job LBurk. Very smart as well. We usually don’t do the cold calling. How well is that going or how well has that worked in the past. We usually load up with our ad packs, biz cards, etc and do face to face PR. Waste gas I guess, but works well on our side of things. Once you get the demo, you will get the job. Only once did we not get the job, he did not like the price. If could afford to pay somebody, I would do as you are. Great thinking and thanks for the info.

We are toying with the idea of having our techs sell when times are slow. We either set up the appointment or allow them to visit the business and do the demonstration. I pay them 5 bucks an hour and then 10 percent of any job they get. The 10 percent is a 1 time payment.

So far it has been working out pretty good. Skyler, my helper, booked three jobs this week just by walking into businesses. He also did another demo for the Marriott. They are in the process of installing new carpet; however want us to clean the smoking rooms. They are a non-smoking hotel, so when they have guests that smoke in the rooms, they add a hefty charge and can afford our process.

This person sole responsibility would be to sell and get us business her could work if he or she wanted to, but the idea would be that he could cover more areas that just my own. Of course with the help and agreements of other operators. I would like to see us as neighboring operators work more or better together. I think this is something that could really work well with little effort. I’m not good at walking into a business and saying can I be you carpet cleaner. I would rather hire it out and it seems that one person would have better success in multiple areas. It would be mainly focused on businesses some good steady work for the winter.
