Greetings Gods and Goddesses of Grime,
Have you ever let the words “I just don’t have any willpower” slip from your lips? I know I have let that sentence fly from my mouth many a-time!
It has come to my attention (I guess it’s never to late to learn) that willpower needs a partner. We must also develop “discipline“. Discipline helps us to do things that we cannot do by willpower alone. Wishing alone just ain’t gonna make it so.
Here are four steps that will help you build discipline (thus strengthening your willpower) so that you can achieve your goals:
1. Define and understand clearly what it is you want to accomplish.
Be specific and realistic.
(So far, so good. Not too hard yet. We all know pretty much
what we want in life)
2. Define what barriers are keeping you from achiveing that which you
want. Be objective, realistic and specific with this too. What
barriers can you change?
(remember not to blame others for your lack of discipline :>))
3. Look for particular practices, experiences and/or relationships
that can be started/developed that will help you to overcome the
barriers.
(this is the exciting part, because it brings hope!)
4. Do it.
(Ya, now it just got hard!)
By taking one tiny step toward reducing your barriers, you have begun to strengthen your discipline…and that which you exercise doth become stronger!
Remember, you can’t eat the elephant all in one bite! Which means, this is a life-long process. One step at a time.
Good luck! Until the next time we visit, I wish you well.
Warm regards,
Kathlynn
