Question for those who handle credit cards:
Is your credit card activity up, down or unchanged since this economy has gone south? Also, what do your fees consist of?
November 21, 2008 at 1:48 am #153020AnonymousInactiveWe have had a great year. We are up about 36% from last year, but are credit card sales were down to almost none. We got rid of are credit card machine last month because it wasnt worth the $50.00 per month we were spending. If i get a credit card now I have my neighboring franchise run it for me and i give him 5% of the total. If I didnt look at are stocks or the news I wouldnt even know the economy is struggling as bad as it is. We are all very fortunate to be part of this business in times like these.
P.S When stocks go down buy more its all about DCA.
Hope all is wellNovember 21, 2008 at 3:09 am #153021AnonymousInactiveWe never took credit cards until today. We just signed an agreement. Our first year and a half we were luck to have 2 people want to pay with a card. In the past month we had 5 people wanting to use a card and lost 1 job because they wanted to pay strickly with a card only. Our fees are 1.49% .10 per transaction $7 statement fee and $20 a month wireless fee with no monthly minimum. We have the option to use the card to process checks were it will basically process a check like a credit card and guarantee it like a credit card. We also have the option of using the maching to process gift cards. Overall with the fees this was one of the best rates I found. Hope this helps you. If you do decide to do it do some real good homework. I learned a lot how one thing looks good but they got another way to give it ot ya raw. Hope this helps a little.

For all of you that have a rewards card that gives you points towards whatever or mileage. The credit card companies don’t pay for those we do. The businesses that take those cards are the ones that pay for the rewards. So I get charged the same roughly the same amount, however when I accept a rewards card the fee almost doubles. I believe this is the same way for every company that accepts credit cards. That’s why we don’t accept discover/novus, and American Express. The rewards are to great and so are the fees.
November 22, 2008 at 10:02 pm #153023pachecoParticipantAbout 10% off last year…almost zero real estate cleanings and a couple of heavy hitters last couple of years are not hitting due to real estate death here.
Anyway, we researched it and it seemed easier for us to use Paypal…I know,,,I know,,,but we also do EBay and were already signed up. With CCs we always run through before the work is completed since many either are over limit or not otherwise in use… call wife with info and she enters and voila..we begin. Got stung the other day though when she told my son she was paying cash and then switched to cc..over limit.
We get 1-2 a month maybe…and we can take any card with Paypal…
Not the cheapest, but for the 2 of us, the easiest.

February 9, 2009 at 5:42 pm #153025Bwaite77ParticipantMatt has a point… I have recently noticed that when I accept a Rewards card, it cost me about $15.00 plus monthly service.
I’m looking at changing. At the very least, I am going to shut down my AMEX and Discover accounts.
February 10, 2009 at 4:26 am #153026NJ05ParticipantI have not taken cards in over 6 months. The volume just was’nt there.
November 15, 2011 at 4:59 am #153027hbottumwaParticipantWhat do think of this? I noticed the advertisement in the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Businesses) magazine. It’s a credit card processing for internet phones. No hidden fees just 2.75% on everything. Is this good? Yes or no? https://squareup.com/
November 15, 2011 at 9:26 pm #153028AnonymousInactiveGordon I’ve seen this also recently. It just seemed too good to be true based on all the other CC processors. Hopefully someone else is using this and can give us all a report.
November 16, 2011 at 1:09 am #153029KY13ParticipantI’m using them. And no it’s not too good to be true. It’s a 2.75% flat rate to swipe cards and 4% flate rate to manually put in the card # (ie. taking payment over the phone). I have been using them for a couple months now and so far have had no problems. Myself and a couple of other operators spoke highly of this company in another thread.
November 16, 2011 at 3:39 am #153030AnonymousGuestI use Square as well with no issues other then their deposits can be slow…Up to three days
November 28, 2011 at 10:40 pm #153031AnonymousInactiveThanks for the reply. I may start to take take them with this kind of deal! I must have missed that posting in my required reading. I will search it out!
Thought I would edit my post and add to it what I found out. Just looked at it on their website,www.squareup.com, looks like a good deal. If there are multiple phones they can be all connected to the same account. Nice for multiple those with employees. Supported phones are Apple and Android phones that use 2.1 operating system.
Guess I have no excuse not to take credit cards now.
November 29, 2011 at 4:50 pm #153032hbottumwaParticipantI understand it could be used with an i-pad also.
December 11, 2011 at 7:42 pm #153033Ca22ParticipantI just recieved my square. I will report back how it is going in a month or two. Easy to get and set up. Also Free and no contract. We will still run cc from office that my techs recieve.
